BPQ AWARDS: 2017 Most Liked Post Of The Year: District Of Columbia Wins Back To Back Miss USA Titles
This is a new award! With this win, the District of Columbia (population: 681,200) became one of six states/federal entities to win four or more Miss USA crowns. 👑👑👑👑 The original post showing all four Miss USAs from the nation's capital over the decades resulted in more than 1,100 "likes" (& drew a few haters as well). It also holds the record as the most-liked post ever on BPQ. We also fielded inquiries from abroad, especially Latin America, about D.C 's demographics (it is currently 48% black, although it was once as high as 70% black) & why it has "so many" black queens (the D.C. metropolitan area, which includes parts of the neighboring states of Maryland & Virginia, is THE stronghold for black pageantry in USA: it is home to some of USA's wealthiest black communities, it has plenty of well-educated black folks, & a sizeable black population.....all elements that, combined, can generate a steady stream of kick-ass & well-trained black pageant contestants ready to snatch "your" crown. 😂 This area has won a number of national titles, across pageant systems).
Only four states/federal entities have won the Miss USA crown outright with queens of acknowledged black ancestry: DC, Michigan (1990, 1993), Tennessee (2000, 2007), & Texas (1995, 2008). DC is the first & only one to win the Miss USA with three black/part black queens, & the first to win back to back titles with black/part black queens. Hat tip 👒 to @universemiss for the collage.
