18 year old Anya Pogharian was not satisfied with the $30,000 price tag on dialysis machines - a price she felt was much too high for a lifesaving treatment. Anya submitted a "do it yourself" model of the machine that costs only $500 for the Google Science Fair in 2014. While volunteering at a hospital in the dialysis unit, she witnessed first hand how much energy and time it took for patients to get to their appointments multiple times a week. The machine she created could be used at home. Anya did most of the research online prior to building her first prototype. Since then, she has received nationwide recognition, investor backing, and mentorship from Harvard University professors. The ultimate goal is to get the machine approved and take it to market.
