My entry for the theme, "quest" with @allianz : I #Dareto chemically produce affordable glass in my #Quest to exercise and expand my knowledge.
This image presents a few steps in a sol-gel preparation of silica glass. So little of the chromium (III) chloride hexahydrate, seen in the far right corner, is dissolved in water, before the addition of ethanol and tetraethyl orthosilicate. Hydrochloric acid is then added, as seen in the top left, to catalyse the hydrolytic reaction. The solution is then poured into an empty petri dish and left to dry. As you can see, my professor poked the gel-like solution to test whether or not we would have to wait a couple more days for it to completely solidify. Well, that's the gist of it. Feel free to ask me questions!
