Double Turns On1🔥🔥This is truly a milestone move. If you can do it you've unlocked your status as an intermediate dancer and opened up so many doors. Want to do 3, 4, 5 or 17 spins? This is step one.
-
🚫 Warning: don't try this move with beginners. It won't work, you'll be annoyed, they'll be annoyed and it just won't work. Only do this with follows that have learned how to prep and follow them.
-
👦👧 want to master double turns? we have a very detailed lesson on our site for members that we highly recommend - link in bio.
-
There are many ways and styles of preparing for these turns and each teacher has their own preference. There's no one right answer. If it works it works and that's what matters. -
It's going to take some practice, but you'll get it and it's all worth it in the end!

Walk Around On1. This move is just cool. It's not often taught and there are SO many ways you can use it. Here it is in it's simplest form.
-
The entire move takes place in the first 3 counts of the cross body lead (CBL). The last 3 counts of it are just, well, a CBL.
-
💃Want to make the exit more interesting? Instead of doing a CBL to finish try replacing it with a NY Walk (outside pivot) instead. Ie. instead of the follow pivoting to the left at the end, she pivots to her right.
-
👉 If you're reading this you should really try a sample lesson - link in bio. Your social dancing will never be the same ;)

Double Lock Walk intermediate combo On1.
-
Let's get some practice in with that arm spiral. The variation you'll see here is a little fancier and uses two locks and then some rondes. Moves in this combo are:
-
✔ Arm spiral (double lock)
✔ Inside turn (to a check)
✔ NY walk
-
Leads and follows, relax your arms on the arm spiral and those rondes as the arms go up and down. When your elbows are down and have arms as light as feathers magic happens. When you're tense nothing happens. 🚫💪

🎵 Kalamari - Nelson Pinedo

Inside Out Intermediate Pattern On1. Let's review the barrel roll and put a bunch of moves we've shown you together.
-
Moves in this combo are:
✔ Barrel roll
✔ Inside turn (to butterfly)
✔ Right Turn
✔ Semi Circle (to hand drop)
✔ Free Spin
-
All the moves you see above and in this combo are simply variations of the right turn, inside turn and outside turn. Master the basics and you unlock unlimited possibilities.

🎵 Tito Puente - Sandunga

Rolling Barrel On1 - we dedicated this beginner combo to our homies @therollingbarrel in Victoria Canada! And you know what? We released the full instructional videos for this pattern so you can learn it for free - just hit the link in our bio.
-
Kick it off with a couple left turns and then head straight into that barrel roll. Nice and smooth now. Don't drink too much 🍻
-
Leads, when you're on time you have all the time in the world. Relax
-
Follows, don't anticipate what's next, just wait for his lead and relax your arms as he lifts them overhead for that barrel roll (especially if he's tall).
-
Give it a go and see what it's like to learn with Patrick and Scarlet. Link in bio!

🎵Bonito - Charlie Aponte

Barrel Roll On1. Take the inside turn, go back to back and you've got the Barrel Roll variation. It's a great way to switch things up.
-
👦Leads, make sure she turns first, then you. Frame her for the turn, then frame yourself.
-
👧Follows, it's just a regular inside turn for you, but you may feel his hand go a little higher than normal (depending on his height) since it has to go over his head.
-

Spiral Strut Intermediate Combo On1. Hit the link in our bio to learn this complete lesson with @patrickandscarlet! 📽
-
I LOVE this one. Why? The tune is great and it's all about the follows strutting their stuff. Clear the catwalk because they're about to own it!
-
Individual moves in this combo:
✔ Rejection
✔ Traveling turns
✔ NY Walk
✔ Cape
✔ Change of place

Follows, want to walk like Scarlet? Work on your body movement techniques. That's right, body movement isn't just for looks. It's technique that expands you are capable of doing. Good body movement and swivel technique opens up SO many doors for your partners. Plus, you'll look damn good doing it. Become a member to get access to the workshops.

🎵 La muralla - Avisale

Traveling Turns On1 - another common turn sequence you see all the time. These traveling turns are inside turns - 2.5 counter clockwise to be exact. -
👀 You'll see Patrick doing these from the left rail (the left side of the line of dance), but you can also execute them from the right rail, like you would regular inside turns - it just feels different because you start the turns earlier. You can also use your choice of hands too.
-
👦 Leads, travel with her so you continue framing her. Her axis is on top of her head so make sure you keep it there. If she takes big steps and runs away, that means you take big steps and follow her.
-
👧 Follows, there's no need for big steps, keep things tight and squeeze your legs through the turns. Need help? We've got Turn Technique workshops that will change your life. -

Criss Cross Cuddle Intermediate Combo On1. Here we show another variation of the reverse outside turn that rolls into a cuddle. It's pretty cozy. From there it's inside and outside turn variations. -
Improving is all about understanding the individual moves and concepts that make up the dance of salsa. Once you can do them on their own linking them in patterns becomes a whole lot easier. Moves from this combo are:
-
✔ Reverse outside turn
✔ Inside turn
✔ Outside turn
-

Multiple back spot turn On1. You've seen the single before. Now let's get crazy. You can do as many back spot turns as you want in a row. Patrick and Scarlet do 3.5 here.
-
👦Leads, you don't have to face the same way you started. You don't have to step in the exact same spots each time around.
Just move in a circle and keep your correct steps and timing. Maintain your frame and smile.
-
👧Follows, frame is key here, stand tall. Maintain your steps and timing. Enjoy the ride!

The Cape On1. Want to learn the lead and follow for this move? We created a complete instructional sample lesson for you on TheDanceDojo.com so you can see how we teach - link in bio.
-
The Cape is fun move where the ladies get an immediate inside turn before continuing forward into an outside pivot.
-
👦 Leads, this is a great move to learn. It's smooth and flows so nicely and can be done from a load of different hand holds. You'll love it gauranteed.
-
👧 Follows, having trouble with your balance during those traveling turns? We've got turn technique workshops that will change your life.

Walk and Roll intermediate combo On1. This one's all about inside and outside turns in various hand positions. We also introduce the reverse outside turn in this one (an outside turn, but from the other side of the line of dance).
-
Start with a basic right turn followed by a reverse outside turn (aka right side pass outside turn), another outside turn and an inside turn to finish. Ladies, don’t worry about what the lead’s hands are doing, just do you – remember your basic techniques! -
🔥Want to improve faster? We breakdown each of these individual moves and this combo in our complete On1 and On2 curriculums on the TheDanceDojo.com. Try a sample lesson - link in bio.
- 🎵Sonora Poncena – Satin ‘n’ Lace

Spanish Butterfly Intermediate Combo On1. Let's transform some old tricks into new ones. In this combo we'll introduce the back-hand pass variation of the outside turn.
-
Open up for a nice "boing" before sending her into a back-hand pass (outside turn). As you pull her through watch her as she struts her Spanish walks (swivels). From there it’s an inside turn into a butterfly with a right turn to finish.
-
Moves in this combo:
-
✔ Outside Turn (w/ back-hand pass)
✔ Pull Through
✔ Inside Turn (to butterfly)
✔ Right Turn -

Toss and Catch Intermediate Combo On1. This one's great for reviewing your inside turn and free spin skills all while adding in some extra turns for the fellas.
-
Start off with a hand toss as you reconnect for an inside turn. Take turns turning right and add a left turn for the fellas, before finishing off with a free spin as you reconnect your hands once again. Moves in this combo:
-
✔ Inside turn
✔ Right turn
✔ Left turn
✔ Free spin
-
Want help learning any of those moves up there? We've got complete breakdowns and a progressive curriculum to get you where you want to be. Try a sample lesson at TheDanceDojo.com - link in bio.

🎵La Musica: Orquesta Tabaco y Ron – Miénteme

Hamerlockin' Double-Crossin' Intermediate Combo On1. Ready for some hammerlocks and hand switches with a fun twist at the end?
-
Before you take a stab at it make sure you’re good friends with these techniques (need breakdowns? Check out our online lessons at TheDanceDojo.com - link in bio):
-
✔ Reverse outside turn
✔ Outside turns
✔ Basic right turns
✔ Inside turns
✔ Copa
-
👦Leads, use those rails and give her the line of dance. The copa at the end works just the same as the basic version, but since you can't place a hand on her hip, get her hand to the other side of her body to stop her from stepping back.
-
👧Follows, stand tall to keep your posture and frame. Work those hips and body movement techniques. Don't be a drag just be a queen 😉
-
Have a great weekend ✌
The Dance Dojo Crew

Copa On1. Here's the basic Copa using one of the most common crossed handholds to start and the Free Spin as an exit. Did you know Copa means "cup" in spanish?
-
👦 Leads, timing, arm position and catching her hip are key on this one. Try not to let her over rotate as she goes into the copa - it's not a full half turn like in the change of place. Make sure you stop her by the hip on 3 and send her back on "and-5" for the exit.
-
👧 Follows, likewise, don't over rotate in the copa (unless the lead makes you do it by accident, of course). You should only have done a quarter turn by 3 as he stops you and sends you back. Why only a quarter turn? Because of where he places your arms! Your arms and hands are your roadmaps, square up to them and keep your frame!
-
🎬 This one is tricky to learn. If you need a hand sign up for our full instructional lessons at TheDanceDojo.com or try a sample lesson first - link in bio!
-
Tomorrow we'll show you the Copa in a combo full of inside snd outside turn variations! ✌
