Multiple back spot turn On1. You've seen the single before. Now let's get crazy. You can do as many back spot turns as you want in a row. Patrick and Scarlet do 3.5 here.
-
👦Leads, you don't have to face the same way you started. You don't have to step in the exact same spots each time around.
Just move in a circle and keep your correct steps and timing. Maintain your frame and smile.
-
👧Follows, frame is key here, stand tall. Maintain your steps and timing. Enjoy the ride!

Posture up fellas because you’re about to become El Matador! Yesterday we showed you the Cape (full lesson available on our site for free - link in bio) and now it's time to use it. This intermediate salsa pattern on1 combines inside turns and outside turns with hammerlocks and then finishes off with a swing of the cape and a suave to exit.

At Dance Dojo we ALWAYS breakdown the lead and follow technique of individual moves. We don't believe in just throwing patterns at you - that's no way to learn. If you'd like the instructional breakdowns for every move you see here, try a sample of our online lessons at TheDanceDojo.com - link in bio!

Here's the Change of place with Cross Body Leads in between.

The Change of place footwork for both partners is simply the Cumbia basic (think back basic with a slight rotation). 🚶🏼Leads, step onto the rail to ensure you give your partner the line of dance (get out of her way). Once you complete one cumbia basic make sure you step back onto her line of dance to complete the step. 💃🏻Follows, be responsive to the slight pull you feel as the move begins and progress forward. As he lifts his hand over your head rotate naturally and relax!

The Cape On1. Want to learn the lead and follow for this move? We created a complete instructional sample lesson for you on TheDanceDojo.com so you can see how we teach - link in bio.
-
The Cape is fun move where the ladies get an immediate inside turn before continuing forward into an outside pivot.
-
👦 Leads, this is a great move to learn. It's smooth and flows so nicely and can be done from a load of different hand holds. You'll love it gauranteed.
-
👧 Follows, having trouble with your balance during those traveling turns? We've got turn technique workshops that will change your life.

Walk and Roll intermediate combo On1. This one's all about inside and outside turns in various hand positions. We also introduce the reverse outside turn in this one (an outside turn, but from the other side of the line of dance).
-
Start with a basic right turn followed by a reverse outside turn (aka right side pass outside turn), another outside turn and an inside turn to finish. Ladies, don’t worry about what the lead’s hands are doing, just do you – remember your basic techniques! -
🔥Want to improve faster? We breakdown each of these individual moves and this combo in our complete On1 and On2 curriculums on the TheDanceDojo.com. Try a sample lesson - link in bio.
- 🎵Sonora Poncena – Satin ‘n’ Lace

Spanish Butterfly Intermediate Combo On1. Let's transform some old tricks into new ones. In this combo we'll introduce the back-hand pass variation of the outside turn.
-
Open up for a nice "boing" before sending her into a back-hand pass (outside turn). As you pull her through watch her as she struts her Spanish walks (swivels). From there it’s an inside turn into a butterfly with a right turn to finish.
-
Moves in this combo:
-
✔ Outside Turn (w/ back-hand pass)
✔ Pull Through
✔ Inside Turn (to butterfly)
✔ Right Turn -

Toss and Catch Intermediate Combo On1. This one's great for reviewing your inside turn and free spin skills all while adding in some extra turns for the fellas.
-
Start off with a hand toss as you reconnect for an inside turn. Take turns turning right and add a left turn for the fellas, before finishing off with a free spin as you reconnect your hands once again. Moves in this combo:
-
✔ Inside turn
✔ Right turn
✔ Left turn
✔ Free spin
-
Want help learning any of those moves up there? We've got complete breakdowns and a progressive curriculum to get you where you want to be. Try a sample lesson at TheDanceDojo.com - link in bio.

🎵La Musica: Orquesta Tabaco y Ron – Miénteme

Hamerlockin' Double-Crossin' Intermediate Combo On1. Ready for some hammerlocks and hand switches with a fun twist at the end?
-
Before you take a stab at it make sure you’re good friends with these techniques (need breakdowns? Check out our online lessons at TheDanceDojo.com - link in bio):
-
✔ Reverse outside turn
✔ Outside turns
✔ Basic right turns
✔ Inside turns
✔ Copa
-
👦Leads, use those rails and give her the line of dance. The copa at the end works just the same as the basic version, but since you can't place a hand on her hip, get her hand to the other side of her body to stop her from stepping back.
-
👧Follows, stand tall to keep your posture and frame. Work those hips and body movement techniques. Don't be a drag just be a queen 😉
-
Have a great weekend ✌
The Dance Dojo Crew

Copa On1. Here's the basic Copa using one of the most common crossed handholds to start and the Free Spin as an exit. Did you know Copa means "cup" in spanish?
-
👦 Leads, timing, arm position and catching her hip are key on this one. Try not to let her over rotate as she goes into the copa - it's not a full half turn like in the change of place. Make sure you stop her by the hip on 3 and send her back on "and-5" for the exit.
-
👧 Follows, likewise, don't over rotate in the copa (unless the lead makes you do it by accident, of course). You should only have done a quarter turn by 3 as he stops you and sends you back. Why only a quarter turn? Because of where he places your arms! Your arms and hands are your roadmaps, square up to them and keep your frame!
-
🎬 This one is tricky to learn. If you need a hand sign up for our full instructional lessons at TheDanceDojo.com or try a sample lesson first - link in bio!
-
Tomorrow we'll show you the Copa in a combo full of inside snd outside turn variations! ✌

The Wrap On1. This one's juicy, or maybe it just gets me excited because it sounds like food! Either way there's lots of directions you can take this inside turn variation.
-
👦 Leads, its like leading and inside turn or free spin from her left hand. Keep your arm low and it'll wrap her up. Remember the turn doesn't actually happen until 6. She's prep'd on the 5 and you initiate it on the "and-6". Let her step forward on the 1 as you "check" her (check = change of direction) and pull her back on the "and-2".
-
👧 Follows, keep your time and keep stepping forward as you turn (not sideways or backwards!) with feet turned out slightly. Don't be confused when he gives you the check. Keep stepping on beat. You're in good hands - he'll guide you 😉
-

-
Once you get this one down play with the handhold variations and ways you exit the move - play time! ✌

Handshake Combo On1. Lets take that Semi Circle you saw yesterday and put it to work!
-
Start with a right turn for the follows, then a right turn for the fellas, a left turn for the follows and finish with the semi circle.
-
👦 Leads, take your time on those turns and stay on time. When you raise your arm for the semi circle don't begin the lead early. The impulse is on 5.
-
👧 Follows, always be ready. Look for his hand (the target) if he offers it so you can smoothly flow into the next move. Keep your core and legs connected when you turn so you rotate as a single solid and stable unit.
-
🎬 Full instruction on our site for members. Try a sample lesson with Patrick and Scarlet - Link in bio!

Hasta mañana chicos ✌

Semi Circle On1. Here we have a fun variation of an outside turn. We'll show it to you here first by itself and then in a pattern.
-
👦 Leads, raise your arm and swoop it down to create an impulse that initiates the turn, on 5. You don't need to continuously crank your partner's arm throughout the turn - that would feel no bueno and it's unnecessary! Start it and let her finish.
-
👧 Follows, never assume or guess what he's going to do. If your follow technique is on point (and he leads semi well) there's no need to be a fortune teller. Keep your posture, frame, relax your arms and stay tight to turn your body as one solid unit. We have technique workshops to help in all these areas on our site.

Next up we'll show you the semi cirlce in a pattern we call "Handshake". Deal? ✌

The Free Spin On1. You see this inside turn all the time. It's a great way to give the ladies a little space for a moment or send them into shines during the motuno section.
-
👦 Leads, despite what it looks like you don't want to crank her arm and try and make her spin. Simply guide her forward and a slight suggestion should do the trick.
-
👧 Follows, if your doing your swive techniques (body movement / figure 8s with your hips as you walk) you'll always be prep'd to turn and with just a slight suggestion he can initiate your rotation. If you dont't swivel he has to use more force to initiate. Nail your swivels! They are so key for progressing as an intermediate dancer.

Mariposa combo On1. Let's take those right turns and inside turns you already know and add in the tow truck we showed you yesterday. You'll notice these moves are variations of the basic version we've shown you before.
-
👦 Leads, you,re going to hijack her inside turn and bring her back towards you. Don't rush it though. Make sure she can step forward before you bring her back. You also don't need to lead her swivels. This is a body movement technique she does on her own. Finish it off with a tow truck and use your right hand to catch her tummy.
-
👧 Follows, take your time and stay on time. Learn those body movent techniques (hint: we teach them on our site) to enhance your walk/hips/swivels. Why? When you swivel and weight your steps correctly you're prepared for anything at any moment. If not, you limit the lead's options significantly. It also just looks 👌 too 😉

Tow Truck On1. You've surely seen this move in many forms. Let's take a look at this basic version.
.
.
👦 Leads, when you initiate the move keep her hands in front of her. This lets her know she should stay straight. Then lift them gently overhead. You can lead this move from a variety of handholds and the principal remains the same.
.
.
👧 Follows, your hands are your roadmaps. If he keeps them in front of you stay straight. If he lifts them directly over your head without moving them in a circle or "halo," to give you a spin, then this is neutral. Don't lead yourself into a turn!
.
.
✔ This move is a great test to see if each of you are following the rules of lead and follow. It takes some practice!

El Arco On1. It's time for some more practice with the Pull Through. You'll get it in it's simplest form first and then you'll do the second one with an open break. Feel and see the difference?
-
-
👦 Lead's take your time on the pull throughs. Let her come to you. Try and make a nice open break connection before the second pull through and be at a right angle to your partner to make your lead clearer.
-
-
👧 Follows, work your basic techniques and body movement. Don't guess how he's going to exit the pull throughs or what's coming next because, well, you can't! Technique over fortune telling! 🔮

The Cross Body Open (CBO) On1. This variation of the cross body lead is the secret sauce to making your transitions and moves more elastic and dynamic. Tomorrow we'll take the CBO and combine it with the Pull Through and you'll see exactly what we mean.
-
-
👦 Leads, instead of following up with your partner on the cross body let her keep going and step into an open (back) break instead, to create that elastic connection.
-
-
👧 Follows, you'll notice your partner isn't coming towards you like usual so don't take a big step back on1 when you finish the cross body. Instead, anchor yourself in place, take a tiny step back, or in place, and be ready to progress and propel yourself forward. What goes out must come back in!
