Everyone meet Daisy! Daisy is a 5 and 1/2 year old Dachshund that presented to Dr. Potanas, our board certified surgeon, because she became paralyzed in her hind legs. Dr. Potanas evaluated Daisy and suspected a lesion between her third thoracic and third lumbar vertebrae known as a T3-L3 myelopathy. The most common cause of this in Daisy's breed is a herniated intervertebral disc.
Daisy was anesthetized and a spinal CT was performed to evaluate her spinal cord. The CT scan revealed a large compression from a herniated disc at her T13-L1 disc space. Emergency surgery was performed via a hemilaminectomy to remove the material and decompress her spinal cord successfully! We are happy to report that Daisy recovered very well and was walking normally before her suture removal two weeks after surgery! We love Daisy and wish her all the best in her continued recovery! #vetsurgery #vetsurgeon #dachshundsofinstagram #dachshund #backdog #IVDD #discdisease #welovedaisy #SWFVS
