[ #TextureTuesday Reflection ☯️]
Is there one thing in particular that you remember really disliking about your curly hair and now you love?
I can think of a few, and of course, my answer to this question has changed slightly since experiencing medically-related hair loss over the years and now having a whole new head of hair, compared to my younger years. But essentially it is the same thing.
Can you guess? --> I N D I V I D U A L I T Y
Yes! It's how unique each curl can be from one another, each look/photo can be from the next, and the different textures and curl patterns that can exist on one head! It even extends into how my hair receives color, and the reason I get asked quite often if I changed my haircolor when I haven't.
It used to frustrate me that my curls rarely look exactly the same two days in a row. But as time has passed, now I embrace it because it is uniquely ME . Many simple factors contribute to this and it's nothing I need to lose sleep over. I rarely do the same hairstyle two days in a row, so obviously my curl pattern will be affected, and sometimes it's simply a result of how much time I had available to spend on styling.
When I saw this photo, I noticed how overexposed my face was, due to sitting in a sunny window, and yet how good of a shot it was to capture the larger ringlets that my hair fell into that day and even how it shed good light on my color, which typically looks a bit darker (or just dark brown) and more one-dimentional under regular indoor or flourescent indirect lighting. (My haircolor is more visible under lighting or in direct daylight.) Sure, I had some serious shrinkage happening here, but lots of definition, which is always my personal preference over frizzy volume. (my hair is ultra thin). But most of all, this photo reminded me of how proud I and all of you fellow curlies should be to embrace our hair in all of it's crazy, individually unique glory. It is part of what makes you ....Y O U.
