A few weeks back I did my first solo long distance trail. Always being pulled towards the the north of England I hiked the lake district from south to north in five days, completing The Cumbria Way. Valleys, lakes, rivers, woodlands and pastures this trail had everything that a ramblers heart yearns for.
The toughest leg of the tour was day three, as I decided to include Bowfell, one of the highest peaks in the area and not part of the usual route. Crunching 32km that day and about 1600m up an down, the last few kilometers lead you past Derwent Water. Close to the shore is the beautiful sculpture 'Entrust" by Rosalind Rawnsley. Two cupped hands made out of wood to commemorate the centenary of the land being in National Trust ownership.
