Tattoos and birthmark 🌙
Nobody asked BUT is fast fashion ruining the economy? Short answer yes. But how is that possible? More production, more sales, more productivity = higher profits right? Not exactly, most countries had their own local garment producers, small businesses with materials sourced locally providing jobs to their communities and with prices just high enough that consumers could only afford what they needed. Not much overconsumption, pollution or human exploitation happening. Enter capitalised globalisation 🌎💰🌍💰🌏💰some businesses (all from countries with strong economies) figure out they can produce in countries with super cheap working hands cutting down their production costs, lowering prices and reaping more profit by expanding to countries with less financially powerful economies and completely obliterating the competition. Local businesses close down one after the other and people lose jobs as consumers go crazy over the criminally (literally) low prices of the titan corporations. Countries now bleeding cash into the hands of mega rich fashion colonialists with an army of skilful staff that knows exactly how to make the company pay the least amount of taxes, higher the least amount of people and exploit them to the max. Shopping districts like Ermou str. here in Athens Greece, once hosting local brands and providing jobs to an entire industry is now packed with the likes of fast fashion brands @zara @hm @bershkacollection @forever21 @oysho @pullandbear @stradivarius @mango and many more. All providing almost exclusively part time minimum wage jobs of less than 400€ per month to the exploited, over qualified young people of this country.
This is the equivalent of taking a predator like the lion and dropping it on an island where the most dangerous animals are bunnies. The lion will eat all the bunnies, the balance of the ecosystem will be disturbed and not only the bunnies will go extinct in the process.
I'm not anti-globalisation, just like I'm not anti-lion but we need laws and policies in place that start protecting the bunnies from the lions. The responsibility shouldn't fall exclusively on the consumer to #shopconsciously ♻️🙌
