"The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Catholic faith." This is what the the Catholic Church teaches. In simpler terms, it means that our faith comes from the Eucharist, and the Eucharist is the highest point in our faith.
Why is that?
The Eucharist is not just a symbol of Christ. At the words of consecration, the bread and wine become the ACTUAL body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. It is easy, therefore, to say that our faith comes from the Eucharist, because our faith comes from Christ. Jesus Christ was the one who founded the Catholic faith.
Now, when we say the Eucharist is the summit - highest point - of our faith, what do we mean? We mean that all of Catholicism focus on Jesus. The very life of the believer must be Christlike.
A diver who separates himself from the Jesus in the most blessed sacrament of the altar can NEVER hope to be as effective as the diver who is always in communion with Christ.
So, at Holy Mass, worship with everything you have. With your ears, listen to God in worship. With your heart, love God in worship. Worship God with your thoughts, senses, attention, dressing, words, and character. Sit away from friends and family who disturb you during Holy Mass. Let nothing take Jesus away from you. Come prepared to receive Jesus in the Eucharist in the state of grace.
Most importantly, when you leave Mass, let all who see you recognize Jesus in your words, actions, and presence. The true diver enters and stays in communion with the Lord for Christ is the source and summit of our lives.
