Paul Thomas Anderson’s : PHANTOM THREAD (2017)
I’ve been thinking about this movie for a while, and I think I really like it. I don’t love it, but this is one of my favourite romance movies I’ve seen. This film is not very conventional in the way it presents itself and the story is kind of odd. ===
Personally I see it as a film about control, happiness and coming out of a comfort zone. As well as what it means to be an artist and the important things you value as one.
Overall this was very well done and I cannot seem to get it out of my head. I wouldn’t recommend this to general movie audiences, but if you’re someone who admires movies as art then this is a much watch. Day-Lewis disappears (as he always does) in this role and it seems like this character could be very close to his actual self. ===
I think I’ll be coming back to this film after a couple years, it’s not something I see myself watching a lot, but every now and then I think it’ll be a good watch. Definitely a strong ending to Day-Lewis’ acting career.
7.5/10 - very solid movie driven by interesting characters and their habits, however empty and dry in terms of a plot
