“Success is not built on success. It’s built on failure. It’s built on frustration. Sometimes it’s built on catastrophe.” -Sumner Redstone
With that being said, this weekend did not go as planned. This weekend was probably the worst I’ve ever done shooting with two patterns being complete train wrecks, one pattern was not at all desirable and then at the end we had one awesome run.
Day 1: My first stage jitters were worse than I anticipated and I gave Buns all the wrong riding cues, pushing us off the pattern.
Day 2: My “in the zone” mindset was completely thrown in the garbage when I was on deck to go, leading to a spiral down effect of events before I ran which then led to me forgetting how to ride my horse, losing my stirrups and not hitting targets.
Day 3: successful run! Buns was on fire, I was on fire and you can watch the run below.
This whole weekend, Buns was a rockstar. He did exactly what I asked all weekend (even if it wasn’t what I really wanted). I couldn’t have asked more from him. He did his job and I let him down. I may be disappointed in myself but that just means my practices will be more intense leading to the next shoot.
On a positive note, I got to run the American flag all night during the showcase and it was a blast running with all the division winners. I also hung out with some of the coolest people playing some cool games and rocking Nana’s trailer. Aside from my runs, Universal Media was a blast and the Steel Town Gunslingers did an awesome job with the event.
