Have you guys ever wondered how fashion design works? It’s a trickle down system: 1) top tier creatives come up with new ideas. They are the actual designers who think up styles you’ve never seen before, and hand make original innovative pieces. If you want the very best, actual creative innovation these pieces are it 2.) luxury brands develop their own versions of the look. i.e. they begin the cycle of imitation. Their versions of the look are not design but a watered down replica of the original design with a focus on mass production. 3) each lower tier is a slightly less desirable/ more accessible version of the original couture piece. Companies are allowed to do this because currently fashion does not have the same copyright protection as other art forms and you will always have non-creatives looking to profit off of the original designers’ ideas. Luckily informed fashionistas can always tell the difference between couture and economy. Innovation in the industry relies on these stylish shoppers and because of them we aren’t still wearing the same stiff riding habits of the past.
