I was SO happy a few weeks ago because I bought a size 2X T-shirt from Walmart. I put it on today and it was surprisingly a little bigger then it was then (the scale hasn’t budged in a week) and so I thought hummm... I went into Rodney’s closet and got an XL and IT FIT! So I went and got another one just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and IT FIT too! 🤣🤣🙌 I don’t know if I’m more excited about being able to fit an XL T-shirt or the fact that they are his and I can wear them!! 🤣🤣#gettinghealthy #obeasetobeast #NSV #sohappy #countingcalories #❤️❤️❤️

👉🏼 And the reason that BOTH of the above statements are true is because of a concept called ENERGY BALANCE, and The Law of Thermodynamics:

(Calories consumed) - (Calories expended) = Weight gained/lost
⠀⠀
⚡️ This is essentially “Calories in” vs. “Calories out”, where you need to be having less calories “in” than calories “out” in order to lose weight.

😌 And while it makes a lot of sense to eat mostly healthy foods like berries, spinach, chicken breast, melon, asparagus and bananas… you CAN eat some Oreos and a slice of pizza every now and again so long as you are not over consuming calories.

😎 And the reason that all of the above foods are “the best” is because they allow you enough micronutrients, on top of enjoying your diet through flexibility.

💥 But also know this… EVERY food in moderation can also be “the best” (unless you are allergic, or something, duh) so don’t be a headline reader - always look for the depth hidden in the caption, and eat according to your preferences and goals!

Think of it more like on a weekly basis. Find the number of calories you need for your goal..whether it be weight loss, maintenance or muscle gain...and multiply by 7 (7 days in a week) Theres your weekly allowance.

Current mood. Life is very stressful right now. Tragedy has struck in more ways than one. My anxiety is through the roof. I have been turning to food for comfort. What’s the difference between simple and complex carbs? •
It’s something we hear a lot about but perhaps you don’t understand why it matters. Well we’ll help! 😋

Carbohydrates can be split into two groups, simple (soda, fries, white bread, candy, chips, etc) and complex (wheat bread, sweet potatoes, beans, fruit): Your body has to work to break down the complex carbs because they contain more fiber. Because of this, the sugar from them releases into your bloodstream slowly, keeping insulin levels steady and keeping your blood sugar stable. This also keeps your stomach feeling fuller longer and you can wait a little longer for your next meal. •
On the other hand, simple carbs do the exact opposite. Many nutrients may have been stripped out of them and your body doesn’t have to work so hard to process them. This leads to a spike in insulin levels, which causes your blood sugar to go up. And just as quickly as they rise, they fall. So not very long after eating, you begin to feel hungry again and this can cause a pattern of overeating. (This is why you can’t eat just one chip!)

It’s not hard to see why this matters now, right? If you’re trying to calorie count, eating a lot of simple carbs makes it very difficult. Of course, you can still lose weight and eat all the simple carbs you want, if you’re in a calorie deficit. However, you’d have the type of self-control that most of us don’t 😅
Also, complex carbs contain vital nutrients and fiber that we need to stay healthy. •
So for your next meal, reconsider that McDonald’s meal and perhaps bring a large salad with all your favorite stuff in it 😁 You’ll thank yourself in the long run. •
