“Give me your your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” -Statue of Liberty🗽
My heart is broken snuggling with my girls this morning after a rough night with both. We had a slow morning and I can’t silence the hurt watching and reading about what’s currently taking place in our country where we are now saying “how to keep them out” when we used to say “how can we help”. We seem to forget that most of us are either immigrants ourselves or have ancestors who came in this land seeking freedom so for us to loose sight of the human aspect over policy is not what America is called to be.
I am a parent and an immigrant myself and I understand too well the drive of those desperate parents doing whatever it takes to get their families to a safer haven and in many cases, that safe haven may mean taking desperate measures.
Those parents are in most cases fleeing violence, poverty, inhumane living conditions with their children and I know as a people there’s got to be a better way morally, ethically and legally. This is definitely not it 💔
I pray for the families affected and for our representatives to make choices that do not instill fear but rather inspire hope 🙏🏽 #immigration #immigrants #thisisAmerica
I would like to also take a moment to lift up in prayer families and friends in my beautiful city of Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire as they have experienced a devastating flooding today.😢
