Stress=cortisol=increased belly fat. How are you managing your stress? Have a super Sunday and remember to take some time to relax and recharge🌸🌺
#sundayvibes #stressbuster #destress #bellyfat #cortisol #recharge #exerciseequalsendorphins #sundayworkout

As promised, my ways to reduce #cortisol post.....just in time for Santa....🎄🎁 *Sleep, I mean quality REM sleep. This is crucial from the million nerdy studies I've read, at least 6 hours. Should be dark, use blackout blinds, masks. Lol get off the gram( guilty). Supplement if needed, melatonin 0.3mg ( most people take too much), Zzquil, Rx aids if you have to, no shame in doing what you have to do. *Meditation. Try 15 min a day, it's actually really hard at first to get your mind quiet. There's a channel on YouTube Zenlife Relax I like to use, a 432hz or 639hz can actually help convert your alpha and beta brain waves into Theta ones....watch your life change with this one🎆 *Do NICE things for yourself, like I mean it. So many moms and dads I know forget about themselves, they become martyrs. Find what you love, and for ladies, seriously never underestimate the power of getting your hair and makeup done. I'll pick you up lets go out 🍷🍸🍹🥂🍾 *Get enough Omega 3s, NOT 6. Talking decreasing inflammation here. Fatty fish, quality nuts, walnuts, Brazil nuts. I LOVE peanut butter, but since I've cut back and only have it on occasion I've noticed a difference. Lol I have an exotic nut collection now😂😂 *Herbs worth your while ( adaptogenic), since we can't remove all stress; turmeric, ashwagandha, rhodiola, panax ginseng, valerian root. * Treat yourself, I mean mentally. I never understood this, why there is still a stigma with taking an antidepressant or medication to help with anxiety. Talk to someone, get treatment. In fact, since everyone inboxing me wants to cut up, some antidepressants and mood stabilizers can actually suppress your appetite ( ask me which ones). There is ZERO shame in feeling better.
My final thought if you made it this far....you DESERVE to wake up every f***ng day feeling good, about yourself, your life. If you don't, let's fix that first. 💖💖💖💖 Photo: @carla_rae24

#endocrinologia #metabologia #qualidadedevida #endoquali

Short answer? Yes. Long answer? Ok here goes...the thyroid is POWERFUL! Thyroid hormones do a whole heck of a lot for your body. When they get unbalanced, they unbalance everything!🙀
.
Low thyroid hormone and cellular hypothyroid where the T3 can’t get in the cells (so the cells think they are hypothyroid) slows everything down. Think about it, slow hair growth, slow digestion, slow metabolism...etc. 😕
.
It also causes slow Adrenal hormone production and slow cortisol metabolism by the liver. This means on an Adrenal Test, you’ll see LOW metabolized cortisol because the low thyroid has turned everything down. 👎
.
Now, this can lead to higher free cortisol (free and metabolized are different). This is why understanding both values can tell you 1) are you having a thyroid hormone problem and 2) is it affecting my adrenals/HPA Axis?🤔
.
What do you do? Test your thyroid fully with antibodies and rT3 for the ratio then address it! Don’t do a TSH alone. Should you support your HPA axis? Yes! But without thyroid support in this situation, the HPA axis won’t improve much or stay improved long term. 🤔

Fica a dica! 👊🏼

With the holidays upon us, it is both joyful (for some) and stressful (for all), so make it a priority to get some fresh air. Get some perspective, Vitamin D, and oxygen in your lungs. It lowers your cortisol (stress hormone), boosts immunity, improves symptoms of anxiety and depression, and activates your parasympathetic nervous system (which is where repair and rest takes place). _____________________

Thank you for the reminders about my tardiness I’m getting week 6 of my series on stress hormone reduction (prolactin) published.
Anyhoo, better late than never, and this week (really, last week) I am talking about the often overlooked wonder drug: aspirin.
I can’t pretend to do justice to the intricate biological processes that occur, i do understand the positive impact of it though, and I feel that it has contributed positively to an improvement in my metabolic health, which is essentially what this initiative has been about.
Next week will probably be the last in the series, until I report the re-test results, and I will talk about the connection between allergies and the hypometabolic state, and how cyproheptadine can help in the war against histamine (stress hormones). As always, do please let me know if you have any specific questions. *

So your #adrenalglands are the glands responsible for churning out #stress hormones like #DHEA, #cortisol & #epinephrine, better known as adrenaline. This is great in evolutionary times when you had to run from saber tooth tigers; your adrenals increase glucose levels to prepare you to run and churn out #adrenaline so you have the power to get away. But what about in today's world?
.
🔅
If we are constantly stressed, the hypothalamus-pituitary axis that controls the adrenals are forced to produce more and more cortisol. This "steals" from pregnenolone & causes disturbances in all the sex hormones including DHEA, testosterone, estrogen & progesterone! This is a huge cause of infertility along with hormone disruptors in food, water & household products. Your body loves you & wants to help you, so why would your body add more stress to your life with a baby? This is why many couples have their own baby after they adopt, the stress of conceiving is relieved! .
🔅
If you get dizzy when you get up from lying supine, get "hangry" or irritable if you skip meals, have low blood pressure, are exhausted in the mornings, have blurry vision, sweat easily, or crave salt, you likely have hypothalamus-pituitary axis issues or adrenal fatigue! What can you do? .
🔅
1️⃣ #Nettlesleaf-whether in tea or as a supplement, this adaptogen can heal (it also chelate heavy metals & is in my cleanse)
2️⃣ #Ashwagandha / #holybasil-more adaptogenic herbs that help heal the adrenals
3️⃣#Magnesium/ #5MTHF/ #licorice/ #cordyceps-lower anxiety, increase mental stress & strengthen liver- IE Stress Master❗️
4️⃣ #Eat small meals throughout the day-adrenals push out glucose stored in the liver during times of stress. Eating fruit/veggies frequently helps calm the adrenals
5️⃣ #Sleep 8 hours a night
6️⃣ Eliminate #toxicjobs/people/situations as you can. Stop saying yes to shit you hate.
7️⃣ Cut out all #caffeine; you're asking your body to pump out more adrenaline when it needs rest.
8️⃣ #Meditate & spend time in nature
9️⃣ Stop killing yourself at the gym or with crosssfit/HIIT & focus on what feels like a healthy workout. Pick up yoga.#DrJess #beyourownbestdoctor - #regrann

Why do we go on and on and on about self care?
Your adrenal glands are what give us the fight or flight adrenal surge that we need in stressful situations. We need a certain level of adrenaline and cortisol (stress hormones) to keep us functioning. If we have been in an intense situation for a long time for example, parenting, deadlines or pressure at work, IVF or preparing for pregnancy maybe a health concern then our adrenals gland could been working extra hard for a long time. This can lead to adrenal fatigue. You may suffer from memory loss, weight gain, exhaustion and the internal dialogue is ‘what is wrong with me?’ ‘I don’t feel right but not sure what is wrong’
Once you are here you probably need some intensive healing to get your body back into balance and build your adrenals glands back into strong flowing glands.
This can be achieved but you do need to take action and when you are already exhausted putting another ‘job’ on the list is the last thing you need but this is were you need to dig deep and make it happen because the benefits are that you will fire from all cylinders again and enjoy life instead of surviving it.
So this is why therapist bang on and on about self care. Giving yourself 1 hour or 10 mins gives those adrenal glands a little time to rest and start to build up.
So give yourself a break, love yourself, give yourself a hug and get yourself booked in for a Mizan treatment because the more stress you put on yourself the more you dig that hole and that helps no one.
Mizan therapy is a massage that helps the adrenal glands to heal by bringing rich blood to flow to the area and feed them what they need to get strong. It’s is also amazingly zen so your body and mind can relax release happy hormones. #adrenalfatigue #mizantherapy #adrenaline #cortisol #stress #selfcare

Short answer? Yes. Long answer? Ok here goes...the thyroid is POWERFUL! Thyroid hormones do a whole heck of a lot for your body. When they get unbalanced, they unbalance everything!🙀

Low thyroid hormone and cellular hypothyroid where the T3 can’t get in the cells (so the cells think they are hypothyroid) slows everything down. Think about it, slow hair growth, slow digestion, slow metabolism...etc. 😕

What do you do? Test your thyroid fully with antibodies and rT3 for the ratio then address it! Don’t do a TSH alone. Should you support your HPA axis? Yes! But DUTCH Test first and without thyroid support in this situation, the HPA axis won’t improve much or stay improved long term. 🤔

You may be doing NOTHING wrong in your attempt to lose weight.
Hormone imbalances can cause weight gain even if you’re eating healthy and exercising regularly.
High estrogen and low progesterone, also known as estrogen dominance, can cause weight gain due to increased appetite and water retention.
High estrogen can cause fatty tissue to grow and increases insulin which leads to strong sugar cravings.
Anxiety and sleep problems are also common with high estrogen due to its excitatory effect. If you get poor sleep, leptin can be disrupted which is the hormone that controls appetite. It’s a viscous cycle!
Low testosterone can also cause weight gain due to lack of muscle tone. Muscles burn calories even while at rest!
Get your hormones tested with Accelerate Natural Health..Test, don’t guess!

Not sure which one is worse, blowing a 17-0 lead against the division rival Steelers or getting decimated 33-7 by the Chicago Bears. Being a Bengals fan can be quite stressful to say the least and when your body is under large amounts of stress, it produces large amounts of cortisol.
-
Cortisol is a hormone your body releases when it is under heavy amounts of stress. Things like working out, alcohol consumption, and being a Bengals fan all increase levels of cortisol which can lead to storage in the midsection, bad sleep, and impair muscle protein synthesis.
-
Some things that have been a game changer in lowering my cortisol levels and have helped me with my stubborn body fat areas, better REM sleep, and muscle recovery.

Things could be worse and I could be a Browns fan...

“Smart” phone in morning routine?
Digital Dementia and Facebook Depression?
-
“A lot of people give away their sovereignty and their power first thing in the morning.
-
The first thing in the morning they will pick up their phone and they’ll check everything because the way it is set up they are getting their dopamine fixes and its really rewiring their brain so its training them just to be distracted all the time.
-
I like managing my first hour of the day and my last hour because that’s what I can control. Sometimes when I go to the office things are going to hit you and such. When you wake up and you check for your email for instance, all you are training yourself is to respond.
-
These devices are created to literally jolt you with dopamine and give you these fixes.” @jimkwik
-
Neuroscientist Manfred Spitzer created the term “Digital Dementia,” referring to an overuse of digital technology which can lead to cognitive decline such as in concentration and memory.
-
Facebook Depression (or Social Media Depression) is a growing phrase used to shed light upon how everyone is comparing themselves to the highlights of other people’s lives leading to anxiety and depression.
-
If you use your phone as an alarm clock you could turn on airplane mode so you don’t instantly see all of those notifications, texts and emails.
-
There are likely too many options upon waking but here are some healthy habits with more advanced “exercises” on deck.
-
Let out a big yawn to get some oxygen. (Yawning doesn’t mean you’re tired)

Smile or let out a nice laugh. (Laughter is the best medicine)
-
Start stretching before even getting out of bed. (Releasing Cortisol)
-
You can stand up tall and proud Wonder Woman style. (Releasing Cortisol and increasing Testosterone)
-
Rub your palms together and place them on your eyes because there is a heavy concentration of nerve endings in your hands so a system of nerves endings connected with your eyes and other aspects of your senses activate and awaken immediately.
-
Wiggle your toes to immediately activate a set of nerves that will wake up your brain and stimulate your internal organs. You can even try this “exercise” whenever tired.

Alright lovelies let’s talk #CBD and #adrenalfatigue! So what do I take, why and how are my results? I decided to begin with a high potency #cbdoil as I consider myself still to be in a Healing process though my energy levels are stable and have been for a while now. My crash gave me joint pains something I know you #fybromyalgia warriors deal with too - this was also a huge reason for me to start out on a high potency 15% oil vs a mild 3% one. I started out with a 15% decarb - two drops one hour before bedtime. Drops must be taken and dosed under the tongue for optimal absorption of the body. There’s also capsules but oil is best for quick results - you can add capsules later and they’re great if you’re on the go. For me it’s worked wonders. However, I did the WORK first! With that I mean I surrendered 100% to my body during summer and seized all workout ( cortisol levels are sky high if you have adrenal fatigue and you should NOT be doing high intensity exercising at all!!) I quit coffee as much as possible and I do not drink alcohol anymore even though I love a glass of red - my body is just still too sensitive! So, #cannabis is made up of many compounds one of them being #CBD which is referred to as a #cannabinoid. There are up to 80 known cannabinoids. Most of these cannabinoids found in the plant work in the body by binding to cannabinoid receptors that exist in the body naturally. Cannabinoid receptors can be found in the kidneys, liver, immune system, lungs, and brain. The endocannabinoid system found in both humans and animals is believed to play a role in almost all physiological activities. It helps to ensure homeostasis, and it supports energy storage and intake, cell communication, emotional balance, memory, sleep, reproduction, and more. Well my joint pains are 100% gone with the wind, sleep is better so energy is better during the day mind you I go SUPER early to bed sometimes at 9pm already! Cravings? What are they? This is rather crazy as I’m a past emotional eater at that definitely was re triggered during the crash. Menstrual pains have seized... the past three years I’ve been popping Tylenol AND ibuprofen . So really what else can I say

Its about a week..i havent posted much and been so busy... Dammit December is crazy!!! So many events. The scale said 172.8 yesterday 👎.. I want to see a loss next Saturday so ZERO CARB WEEK in full effect. Weigh in on Friday and or Saturday morning. Goal for the week is to track perfectly ahead of time. Having the right type of health insurance to back you up is a big piece of the empowerment puzzle when it comes to your healthcare. I find that most people have no idea what kind of insurance they have, let alone what benefits they have with it 🤷‍♀️ __________________
In the U.S. there are two basic types of insurance plans and one can come with a huge optional bonus benefit...
*
1️⃣- HMO (Health Maintenance Organization)
👉 Biggest Advantage- premiums are generally lower, there is a low or no deductible
👉 Biggest DISadvantage - less flexibility with coverage, no coverage outside the HMO network and need a referral from PCP (primary care physician) for any speciality *
2️⃣- PPO (Preferred Provider Organization)
👉 Biggest Advantage- more flexibility and coverage outside of the immediate network
👉 Biggest DISadvantage - premiums tend to be higher and it’s common for there to be a deductible *
2️⃣.5️⃣- HSA High Deductible PPO 👉 BONUS Benefit - a tax-advantage medical savings account called a health savings account (HSA)
👉 Biggest Advantage- set aside pre-tax dollars for health costs that you keep forever (not a use it or lose it account like a FSA), some employers will match funds, funds can be used for diagnostic tests, prescriptions and most alternative therapies such as acupuncture, supplements and more
👉 Biggest DISadvantage- high deductible PPO, however you use your HSA funds to cover this

Huge gains this week and I’m not talking about weightlifting.
.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s almost 4 years ago. My energy level was through the floor and my antibodies were through the roof. Hormones were all over the place as was blood glucose and cortisol was super low. Was told to go gluten free but not told why. I researched and researched and researched and ended up doing an autoimmune paleo diet strictly for a few months then modified it cause, honestly, no one can live on that for too long.
.
This week I received the results of my last cortisol test. Surprisingly—and I am shocked by this—my hormones are balanced again, my cortisol levels are in the low normal range rather than below normal like they used to be. My antibodies...I can’t explain this...one is at 1.0 and the other is at 157. Normal is 0-5 or so. My energy level waxes and wanes during the sucky winters here but it has been amazing throughout this entire year.
.
For those of you still struggling, please know that it has taken 4 years of constant food struggles—trying to figure out what works and doesn’t work—hundreds of dollars spent on supplements and combination after combination of meds to get to this point.
.
Honestly though, I think what has made a huge impact was picking up the weights, especially during the most stressful of times. It makes me happy to exercise. :)
.
So if you’re still struggling, don’t give up!! Hang in there! It’s going to take time but it WILL get better if you don’t stop working at it.

Today’s workout brought to you by: a super stressful holiday season 😐
.
Lucas and I sat down this morning and laid out the next couple of weeks. What needs to get done, where we’ll be and how it’s all going to work out. By the end of the conversation my head was spinning and I started to get super stressed out. Now, I don’t want to come off like a grinch or anything but for the last several years Christmas has been nothing but stress for me. My goal for this holiday season is to enjoy myself, not turn into a stress ball and spend time with the people I love. This means keeping my cortisol levels in check and being mindful of the stress I’m dealing with. And what’s an easy way to shake the stressies out? Sweating like a maniac 😂.
.
I started with the second round of week 2 of #abswithhealthychelsea and then did an #MBB “conditioning” workout, which I thought was going to be kind of easy and it turned out being a killer leg day in disguise 😅😅
.
Put a fork in me, cause I’m done. ☠️

Just published! Fructose-induced inflammation and increased cortisol: A New Mechanism for How Sugar Induces Visceral Adiposity @drjamesdinic #drjamesdinicolantonio #cortisol #inflammation #adiposity #visceral #sugar #published

How is your 💤’s-o-meter??? 😴

Getting enough sleep is one of the biggest ways to honor ourselves; it’s a no-brainer when it comes to staying on our game.🎯 What follows a short night of sleep? Mostly, *just trying to function* and being reactive; which makes giving into cravings one of the first things we do. [insert STRESS here.]
-
But here’s the deal in a nutshell. It’s not just weakness and lack of willpower that make us cave to cravings. Cravings are mostly about hormones and when our hormone levels get out of whack, there’s a lot going on in the body. The simple version:
-
🚦Leptin tells us when we’re full and goes 🔝when we’re snoozing; we want to let this one do its thing to keep our rhythms in line, right?! Ghrelin tells us when we’re hungry; 🥣 we definitely don’t want this one over-firing❗️And then.... there’s insulin; let’s just say that lack of sleep jacks this hormone up big time which basically helps us store fat! 😩
-
🆘STRESS is the overall outcome when we skip sleep.👹 (Add cortisol, now! ) We know many things can fall apart when we’re overly tired, but *caving to cravings* is one that is focus-worthy when our health and weight are important to us.
-
🎊Cheers to you for scheduling in more sleep if you aren’t getting enough already! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

FATIGUE. EXHAUSTION. DEPLETION. This is easily one of the top reasons women seek care from their physicians. The mistake is to assume these people simply ‘need more sleep’. In reality, few people seek care when they can easily refresh with a nap or an earlier bedtime. But, DEEP FATIGUE, is becoming all too common. Causes can be decades of undersleeping, poor nourishment leading to deficiencies, long term use of medications( don’t forget oral conception is one of the most depleting out there!), pregnancies, unsupported postpartum healing, years of breastfeeding, stress levels without any cessation, endocrine disruption... this can involve thyroid and/ or adrenal abnormalities...the list is long and arduous! To evaluate these struggling patients takes time and often a complex approach of labs and lifestyle changes. However, too often these patients have been slighted and have been given medications to treat insomnia, depression, adult onset ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain and other vague symptoms that don’t match what is really happening- a complete breakdown in the body’s physiology. Is this you? You aren’t crazy- but you are exhausted.

One of my 'peri' ladies turned up at the wrong time this week due to her brain fog. What is it? ♦️Irritability ♦️trouble concentrating ♦️procrastinating ♦️forgetting stuff ♦️anxiety and ♦️low motivation. 💩Why does it happen even with good sleep?? 🙃It's due to the balance of three crucial hormones. Serotonin, Cortisol and Dopamine. ✋️These are affected by inflammation, diet, physical stress, emotional stress, diet, xs additives, sugar and stimulants.....The list goes on. Hormones and neurotransmitters in our body all work together with the gut. Anti- depressants should not be a quick fix first line prescription and I rarely see them help brain fog in the peri. Good morning instagram! It’s snowing here! ❄️ Sorry I’ve been rubbish at posting recently, I’ve got exams next week and things are busy! On that note I want to talk about STRESS 👇🏼
.
Stress is probably, for me, the biggest acne factor and the most overlooked! I spent MONTHS battling with diet and elimination and failed to see that when I was stressed (before and after a flight for example) my forehead would go mental, yet after a holiday (the Maldives being the most relaxing!) my skin would be soooooo clear and calm. Yes, other factors may have helped (sun/sea) but really, I’m sure it’s mostly stress.
.

A few weeks ago I decided to leave my big City job in London (which I hadn’t yet started) because the thought of working 15 hour days was making me so stressed that I couldn’t sleep. My skin went MENTAL (will post pics later!)
.
Now I’ve moved home and am studying from home/in a local uni, and I feel so much better and my skin is recovering.
.
So don’t overlook stress!!
.
@theclearskincoach live story talked about the science behind it and it made so much sense... it can be a massive cause of unbalanced hormones and low progesterone which I suffer with.

Do you train late?
.
It’s 9:43pm and I just finished up hitting shoulders and abs.
.
Though I hate doing it, there are often times that I am left with no choice but to train late.
.
It’s get it in after everyone has gone to bed or don’t get it in at all.
.
Though getting it in late is better then missing the workout by a long shot, there is one huge disadvantage for all you night owls.
.
Cortisol.
.
Cortisol is our body’s hormonal response to stress.
.
Though necessary while training and in response to stressors that arise through out our day, when left unchecked, elevated cortisol can cause a slew of negatives including weakened immune system, hinderance of hormone production, reduced ability to recover and build muscle, poor quality sleep, and excess storage of body fat (in particular in the abdominal region).
.
If you either prefer to or have to train late there are a few things that can really help you to combat the negative effects of cortisol.
.
First off, any time you train, but especially if you train late, I recommend adding a high glycemic carbohydrate to your post workout protein (I use glucose).
.
Taking a high GI carb post will create a large insulin spike that will help to blunt cortisol levels, replenish muscle glycogen and will actually shuttle more nutrients to the muscles to aid in recovery and muscle growth.
.
Second, If you consistently train later in the evenings or are a person who battles stress levels through out the day, I would also consider adding in a cortisol management product like Burnout an hour or two before bed.
.
Doing so will help your body activate the parasympathetic nervous system, ensuring that you maximize your body’s ability to rest and recover.
.
This can be a game changer no matter if your goal is to burn fat, build muscle, or just to perform better then next day!
.
If you have any question about questions or would like me to dive a little deeper, just slide on into my DM. I’m always here to help in anyway I can.

Knee pain Gee! Because of my PCOS??????
🦋
.
FACT: You do not have to have cysts on your ovaries to have pcos and the ovaries alone are not the only part of the body which causes PCOS symptoms. ENTER.....
🦋
Adrenal PCOS
🦋
Surprising Ways Stress Affects Your Hormones. KC

How your adrenals cause PCOS symptoms
The chart 🔽(Scroll down) shows how both the adrenal glands and the ovaries impact androgenic hormone production. It illustrates how the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, both located in your brain, release hormones that drive the cycle of high androgen output, insulin resistance, increased abdominal fat, and impaired glucose sensitivity. These systems are called the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal or -gonadal axes. (HPA/HPG.) While insulin resistance and elevated insulin often drive the ovarian production of testosterone, it is the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis that stimulates the production of DHEA/DHEA-S and androstenedione. These hormones can be converted to testosterone by peripheral tissues in the body. This process can occur independently from the ovaries and any involvement with insulin.
This means that a woman with PCOS symptoms could have normally functioning ovaries with no cysts and no insulin resistance, yet still fit the symptomatic profile of the syndrome.
There is some controversy over whether elevated androgens cause insulin resistance or if insulin resistance happens first. The most likely answer is “it depends”; some women likely develop insulin resistance first, while others develop elevated androgens first.
Either way, it’s clear that not only is the brain heavily involved in the output of androgenic hormones, but that the adrenals may also be responsible for PCOS symptoms in a subset of women.
