Fall Sport Performance training is happening now, and we're busy developing:

Force Production = Excitation (or neural excitation) refers to the motoneuron action potentials or electric stimuli transmitted to the muscle; the term activation (or muscle activation) designates the set of events linking the excitation with the contractile machinery and resulting in force production.

No gimmicks here folks.

All of these actions embody the definition of force production, which is arguably the most critical variable to develop when it comes to athleticism. 🏀🏊
Josephine, a jr at St Mary's High and Skyler, also a jr at Palmer High are both in their offseason/preseason for basketball and swimming respectively. Both of them have tasted early success in their athletic endeavors, and with some bigger goals on the agenda.......they have dedicated themselves to getting a little better every day! And today we got a little better at producing force!

My HSPU sucks... like a lot. The lack of explosive hippop that makes me struggle with WL and barwork, make these suckers dependent on my strength and endurance in my arms... 😬😬..
So - I’m Working on keeping and controlling coretension under movement/transitions, in freestanding headstand..
Goal is to make perfect HSPU’s, without loosing coretension. Landing with a full extended hip, only touching Wall with heels, so I don’t smack my 🍑 Against the Wall, thus hitting the Wall lower than the OPEN standard predicts..

Taking the opportunity to train outdoors and develop her speed to a greater extent Josephine has been training 4-5 days per week between the field and weight room.

Today we were moving up from 10m emphasis to 20m emphasis with our sprints, and the plan was to do pushup starts, med ball push starts, and 3pt stance starts but it rained last night and the surface of the field was a little less firm than I would've liked........so we modified and used an up right starting position to work on some basics with 8x20 skips and 4x10m lean-fall-run to get well warmed up for 4x20m L-F-L, followed by 4x20m w/ rolling starts. Ended up being a great training!

Never be afraid to change anything for the safety or betterment of the athlete.

This problem was a real fight, beginning with a horrible, tendon-destroying left-handed weird crimp to a dynamic right-handed crimp on the volume.
The next dynamic left hand on the volume was really interesting as I had to ‘try and get my left foot on a hold’ - The core tension generated from ‘trying’ allowed me to catch the next left hand hold even when I cut loose. If I did it any more dynamically, I always flew off the problem! 💁🏻‍♂️🚀
The remainder was just a fight to the finish! 👊🏻

The 1/2 Kneeling/Split Squat/Lunge triumvirate is probably one of the most versatile....not to mention athletic movement sequences we could possibly spend time training.

Throw from the position and develop lower stability with upper power and core reactivity.

Jump from here and develop unilateral leg power production/reduction.

Hold a heavy-ish load and train full body core stabilization and unilateral strength endurance.

After leading her team to the state championship in basketball and taking a silver medal in the 4x800 meter relay at the state track championships Josephine is already preparing for next season. She's decided to train 5x per week this summer. That's called absolute commitment to being the best!

Instead of holding a kettlebell or some implement over your chest or face......try this version of the deadbug!

The point of the deadbug is to load up the oblique slings in the same way that you would in your 🚶 stride or as you would while crawling. This forces your spine to stay still and your limbs to move around that still middle.

The idea here is to load the sub-system more aggressively with the band as the stimulus as opposed to holding a kettlebell at arms length above your chest.
The significant change from the aforementioned variation is the fact that the shoulder opposite the moving leg is pulling isometrically into extension, which allows for a more accurate length/tension relationships between that shoulder and the dropping leg, as well as the work being done by pulling the non moving digits toward one another.

Swung another 500 reps today. Only 500 more to go and the 10000 swings will finally have been reached!

To cap today's workout, I went for max pushups in 60 sec. It ended up being my max reps as well. I feel good about the form but what do you notice is missing as I fight for my last reps? It's not something you can see but something you can hear... My breathing. I always stress sharp exhales (hisses) on those final reps to keep that core tension. It might have cost me a rep or two to neglect that. Regardless of the volume, you need to stay on point!

Back when I first joined a gym, fresh out of Stoke Mandeville, still unable walk more than a few meters, I was failing miserably to do roll outs off my knees.
One day I saw a guy doing them off his toes and I couldn’t believe how easy he made it look. I really believed, and still do, that a strong core would be the key to looking after my iffy spine (by core, I mean everything from hips shoulders, not just my abdominals!!), so I made being able to do this a key goal!
It’s many years later but I love that I can do these for reps and feel pretty strong doing it and see it as a pretty base layer of core exercises these days.
