Working on my core strength here for Karandavasana.
If this is a pose you are working on, I would say first be able to hold a solid forearm balance(pinchamayurasana) for at least 20 sec before attempting Karandavasana.
Secondly try to put your legs into lotus first in a headstand and bring the leg down and up a couple of times so your hips are warmed up, and then attempt it in the forearm balance(as the balance is so much tougher of course).
Try coming down only to the point where you can control the movement and go up three times, so you develop more strength and stability in your shoulders and core, before you come down all the way.Oh! And Also try pressing up, into the forearm balance ; even though it's much tougher it will give you so much more strength, control and stability.
