📚 Every heard of the little engine that could? You know the story where a long train must be pulled over a high mountain. But for various reasons the larger trains refuse. Then a smaller engine agrees to try and succeeds in pulling the train over the mountain. Well this is the little car that could and instead of going up a mountain once like that lazy train did saying “I think I can,” this Mini Cooper rallied through the rough terrain of three African countries five times screaming “I know I can.” And with a 1380cc engine. So take that train. Built originally in 1995 by Robert Plant Engineering, Q290 HBV is a fully-documented 'Group A Rally Car' and was put together for the '95 'Network Q Rally of Great Britain' starting in Chester. It then competed in numerous rallies around the world including the grueling East African Safari Rally. Recently, it underwent a full restoration and bare metal respray. However, during the rebuild, it was felt that, while the car was quite capable of being rallied again, it probably wouldn’t and the original engine was too precious to be used for cold start demonstrations. So it was fitted with a highly modified 1275 MG Metro Turbo. But have no fear you can still buy the original engine that came with this car for only £1500. We’ve got a whole lotta love for this mini, but can this small car make your big rally dreams come true?
Fun Fact: If the £18,000 estimate is a little too much for your wallet, you can still own this car. In 1997 and 2000 Corgi Heritage Centre produced scale models of this car with Land Rovers and trailers 😎
