Week twenty four. Swiss. This classic dish in Switzerland, rösti, is like hash browns but way better! In Swiss German, rösti means “crisp and golden,” but it usually refers to this dish of shredded potatoes sauteed on both sides until, yup, it’s crisp and golden.
Really delicious canvas to accompany any meal. #weektwentyfour #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #swiss #switzerland #rösti #potato #friedpotatoes #crispy

Week twenty three. Arabic. Maqlooba is a dish made in many countries in the Middle East, each with a variation. The layers of tomatoes, eggplant, cauliflower, chicken and rice all cooked together with beautiful middle eastern spices creates a fragrant masterpiece! It doesn’t look the prettiest but oh did it taste good! @ottolenghi #weektwentythree #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #arabic #middleeast #maklooba #maqluba #jerusalemcookbook #rice #eggplant #tomatoes #cauliflower #chicken #spices #upsidedown

Week twenty two. American, part two. It seemed appropriate, on this beautiful July 4th, to make something American. I’m from London and a patriotic Brit but I’m also a proud American and thankful to live in this great country. What better way to celebrate America than with the ultimate American breakfast item, eggs Benedict. English muffin, facon, poached eggs, and all drizzled with one of the essential mother sauces of cooking, the creamy and decadent hollandaise sauce. Delicious! #weektwentytwo #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #american #america #unitedstatesofamerica #4thofjuly #fourthofjuly #americanbreakfast #eggsbenedict #hollandaise #hollandaisesauce #poachedeggs #runnyyolk

Week twenty one: French, part two. It was my baby’s first jewish birthday on the last day of Passover and he was a bit under the weather that day so we didn’t celebrate with a party. Today is his secular birthday and so we decided to celebrate today instead, with the hallmark of French cooking, the temperamental and magical chocolate soufflé with an orange tuile. The crisp and sweet wafer-like orange tuile paired with the rich, creamy and ethereal chocolate soufflé was a match made in heaven and the perfect way to celebrate my little guys first birthday! #weektwenty #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #french #soufflé #chocolate #eggwhites #tuile #orange #wafer #cookie #birthdays #firstbirthday #babyboy #birthdayparty

Week twenty: Cuban. The Daiquirí originated in Cuba and came to America during the Second World War when other spirits were hard to get due to rationing and it’s been popular in the US ever since. It was my husband’s birthday this week so I decided to try my hand at mixology. The well-balanced and refreshing Daiquirí certainly fit the mood, the combination of sweet, sour and spirit was refreshingly tangy and the perfect accompaniment for the birthday dinner. More on what was served and how I adapted the Daiquirí to fit my theme in another post #weektwenty #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #cuban #cuba #carribean #rum #spirit #citrus #lime #syrup #sugar #cocktail #mixology

Week nineteen: Korean. These spicy Korean chicken wings were perfection, spicy, sweet, acidic, savory, just all the flavor combinations there are! Week eighteen: British, part 2. Today is Purim when we give gifts of food to our friends, I did a British theme with scones, jam and some earl grey tea. Sounds lovely! Wishing you all a marvelous Purim 🇬🇧 #weekeighteen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #british #scones #jam #tea #teacup #earlgrey #twinningstea #twinnings #purim #mishloachmanos

Week seventeen part two: Italian. Macarons. Even though the macaron is often called the ‘French macaron’ it actually originated in Italy and was brought to France when an Italian noblewoman married a French king and took her pastry chefs with her when she moved there. Each country has their way of making meringue and that’s what differentiates them. I’ve always wanted to make macarons and I’ve also always wanted to make a proper layered birthday cake so what better week to try it than my birthday! Add lots of chocolate and dairy goodness and it was the perfect cake! 🎉🎂And now that thats off my bucket list, I doubt I’ll be making macarons anytime soon🙈 #weekseventeen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #italian #macaron #macarons #meringue #cake #birthday #birthdaycake #chocaholic #chocolate #ganache #caramel

Week seventeen: Italian. Risotto (don’t tell me you didn’t read that with an Italian accent 😉) This beautiful Italian speciality, humble yet elaborate, rich and creamy and a dish that has kicked many a chef off competitions, it sure looks easier than it is! #weekseventeen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #italian #risotto #musrooms #babyBella #shitakemushrooms #truffle #thyme #andtime #shallots #garlic

Week sixteen: Georgian. Khachapuri, soft bread stuffed with a salty cheese mixture and an egg on top, was perfectly paired with Ajapsandali, a spicy, herby Georgian vegetable stew. #weeksixteen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #georgian #khachapuri #bread #salty #cheese #egg #ajapsandali #jalapeno #eggplant #peppers #tomatoes #parsley #basil

Week fifteen: Somali. Baasto iyo suugo suqaar, pasta with meat sauce. This de facto Somalian dish was so warm and comforting, spiced with the beautiful and fragrant Somalian spice blend xawaash, with cumin, coriander, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. #weekfifteen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #somali #suugosuqaar #baasto #xawaash #pasta #spaghetti #meat #sauce #meatsauce #tomato #cumin #coriander #turmeric #cardamom #cinnamon #cloves #cilantro

Week fourteen: French, part 1. There's are too many French foods I want to make so I had to do it in two parts. With today being Tu B'Shevat, the birthday of the trees, the day we celebrate trees and fruit, I decided to make this citrusy French classic cake, the sweet Madeleine. This light, buttery, fluffy little thing, so simple yet so complex. It was the perfect pairing to my fruit platter, I will definitely be making these again and again. #weekfourteen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #french #pastry #dessert #madeleine #cake #butter #citrus #fruit #nature #trees #tubshevat #happybirthdaytrees #bloodorange #passionfruit #pinkbanana #kiwi #mango pomegranate

Week thirteen: Turkish. My daughter heard about Turkey in school and she asked me to make their cuisine this week, so I made the classic Turkish street food, Lahmacun, with all the toppings along with another classic Karnıyarık. My kids have now asked me to make this every day 😋 #weekthirteen #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #turkish #turkey #streetfood #lahmacun #meatpizza #tomatoes #parsley #lemon #onions #sumac #Karnıyarık #eggplant #stuffedeggplant

Week twelve: Yemenite. Yemenite beef soup with lachuch - Yemenite yeast bread/pancake. This Yemenite beef soup with its complex and deep flavors was perfect paired with the soft and fluffy lachuch to scoop up the goodness. A nice warm hug in a bowl 🤗 both recipes from @mikesolomonov @zahavrestaurant #zahav #weektwelve #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #yemenite #beefsoup #yemenitebeefsoup #hawaj #lachuch #yemenitebread #yeastbread #schug

Week eleven: Austrian. Who doesn't want to make a country's cuisine that involves schnitzel? 😉So I made the traditional Austrian dish, Wiener Schnitzel with Erdäpfelsalat i.e. potato salad #weekeleven #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #austrian #schnitzel #wienerschnitzel #viennese #erdapfelsalat #potato #potatosalad #lemon #parsley

Week ten: Persian. When my son was a toddler he was obsessed with cooking shows and his absolute favorite video was one on how to make tadig, he always asked me to make it but it seemed daunting and so I pushed it off. When I made a #bucketlist of foods I want to try in the course of this #cookwithmearoundtheworld project, of course tadig was right up there. This tadig and kufte were an absolute success. The crispy potatoes and fluffy rice infused with saffron was aromatic and delicious and the kufte was out of this world, even the cherry tomatoes in there tasted incredible! I'll definitely be making this again. #weekten #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #persian #iranian #iran #tadig #potatoes #rice #steaming #saffron #kufte #meatballs #tomato #tomatosauce #cilantro

Week nine: Hungarian. Not the prettiest, but this classic Hungarian dish chicken paprikas with nokedli was great, I'm not the biggest fan of chicken cooked for so long but it tasted good and the Nikedli, i.e. Dumplings were delicious, light, soft and fluffy! #weeknine #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #hungarian #chicken #chickenpaprikash #chickenpaprikas #nokedli #dumplings

Week eight: Greek. I thought Greek would be appropriate the week we're celebrating Chanukah, and I specifically chose dairy foods in honor of Chanukah too. Here's spanakopita, a Greek spinach pie with phyllo and spinach, ricotta and feta cheese and what would be a Greek meal without Greek salad. #weekeight #success #cookwithmearoundtheworld #somanycountriessolittletime #greek #spanakopita #spinachpie #phyllo #spinach #feta #fetacheese #ricottacheese #greeksalad
