Tonight we took a little trip to the island of Reunion with @tessakiros ’s recipe for Canard À La Vanille, a famous dish of the island.

The scent of braised duck and intoxicating vanilla beans enveloped the house in a lustrous perfume... It was a hit. I served the duck as Tessa suggested with a tart, green mango rougail that could have passed for a grain like couscous, and sautéed greens. I also made a batch of fried butterbean Bonbons Piment.

As for the duck, I loved the interplay of taste and scent in this dish, something I’d describe as scrumptiously intoxicating; a tickle for the senses.

Gearing up for tomorrow’s Borough Market Cookbook Club when we will be feasting on lots of lovely dishes from this beauty of a book by @oliahercules. Looking forward to seeing (tasting) what our lovely members have created. @boroughmarket #cookbookclub

So I did actually go to #cookbookclub at the library. Apparently I was supposed to BRING the thing I made - DOH!! And double-DOH! That's ME, 1 week post-birth, looking super-hot right smack in the middle of #tenaflypubliclibrary's FB page 👌 Anyway, I met a buncha nice ladies, ate a buncha tasty Italian food, and I'll go back again... Too bad they only meet every other month. I tried almost everything there, and tried 4 or 5 Lemon Ricotta Cookies just to be sure they all came out just right 😂 Lucky for everyone there, someone else also made arancini/risotto balls, so no one was deprived of that deliciousness due to my ignorance of the potluck nature of the group 👍

One Pot Peanut Butter Noodles by @veganricha. It’s windy and cold here today, so I wanted to cook up a warm, comforting dinner without it being too heavy. What’s appealing about this recipe is it’s effortless. To a large pot, add noodles, water, tofu, assorted veggies and spices, bring to a boil and voila! I added extra broccoli because I love the way it absorbs all the flavor. With a bit of garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sriracha, vinegar, lime and sugar it’s well balanced in taste too. Smooth peanut butter thickens the sauce and helps tame the heat. A garnish of cilantro brightens it all up while salted peanuts add a welcomed crunch. It’s so fresh and filling, you could probably omit the noodles and still have a really wonderful meal on your hands. This for my Instagram cookbook club #appetiteforhumanity.

I have always been interested in Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of #French Cooking.” Needless to say I was quite excited that we chose this classic for tonight’s #cookbookclub meeting. There’s not one but two volumes of #recipes to choose from. I decided to tackle Charlotte Malakoff aux Fraises aka almond cream with fresh #strawberries . This is a no bake #dessert and is easier than it looks. I did make some mistakes (pulverizing too many almonds at once turning it into a nut butter) which caused another trip to the market...but overall I’m extremely pleased with the end result. I did not have a Charlotte pan, instead I used a springform so no need to reverse the cake onto a plate. I just released the springform and tada! Ladyfingers are soaked in an orange liqueur & water mix. The filling is butter, ground almonds, whipping cream, almond extract & sugar. Almond cream, strawberries, ladyfingers, repeat! #austincookbookcollective #frenchsweets

Prawn pot stickers served with Chinese black vinegar. I have a slight confession, I’m totally obsessed with dumplings. For some reason, I just can’t seem to get enough of them in the last year so when I saw the recipe for the perfect prawn dumplings in Basics to Brilliance, by @donna.hay, I knew these were a must make. I prefer dumplings with a crispy bottom so I made the pot sticker variation. These dumplings are filled with shrimp, water chestnuts, ginger, green onions, oyster sauce, and cilantro. They are then placed in a pan of chicken both and a bit of oil and cook in the steamy broth taking on the flavor until the broth disappears and then the bottoms get this beautiful golden sear. The book suggested serving it with Chinese black vinegar and I added some red Thai chilies, sesame seeds, and a touch of soy sauce to it. Seriously sublime! The best part is these are ready and on the table in less than 30 minutes from start to finish. Served these beauties on my new platter from @sparkleandsoul because I couldn’t wait to use it! Cookies and Cream Popsicles from Basics to Brilliance by @donnahaymagazine were just what we needed yesterday. I realize to West coast was getting snow, but in our neck of the woods it was 80 degrees Fahrenheit!! It was 78 in my house by lunch so luckily I baked the basic chewy chocolate chip cookies the day before. They were quite well received, especially by hubby who ate 2 before dinner and another later that night. Given the rising heat I went decided ice cream would be a great way to treat ourselves. You simply let some vanilla ice cream soften, add crushed up cookie crumbs and fill popsicle molds. Freeze them well and then unmold, add a few more cookie crumbs cuz why not?! You guys I joined a cookbook club and it is just the most fun. Book #1 was Half Baked Harvest. Highly sought after and often sold out, this was the "it" book to try the cook book obsessed! Everything was so delicious, see my story for video of all the dishes. I prepared the "Late Summer Corn and Clam Chowder" and "Salted Brioche Cinnamon Rolls". I used Iowa sweet corn I preserved which was delicious and the brown butter frosting on the cinnamon rolls changed my life! All in all such a fun night and such a great collection of recipes!
