There’s nothing quite like pond dipping for taddies in your school pond 🐸 The children are loving observing our fish tank of frog spawn and tadpoles! We also caught some snails and a newt!! Since then the children have been independently researching tadpoles to find out what they eat and how they grow through books in provision. The tank has also provided inspiration for art work and many deep discussions. (Disclaimer: I’m aware there is too much in this tank, at the end of the day the tadpoles and other creatures were returned to the pond and we now just have frog spawn 🙂) #handsonlearning#scienceobservation#science#reallifelearning#ks1#continuousprovision#yearone#teacher
Loose parts! I've had some ideas of where to source FREE and low cost resources for loose parts play- see link in bio👆but am really keen to add more hints and tips to the list: where do you go for inspiration 💡 and resources 👌?
Even after being told off to stay in the carpet area, the boys reasoned out that they need the “tunnel” (table on the right) for their model. Sometimes I challenge the children by giving them restrictions. I just want to hear them speak out their ideas, improvise their work and learn how to negotiate. #continuousprovision#blocksplay#eyfs#foundationstage#jobsiteplayground
From next week we start our new challenge system. We’ve had a challenge system for a few years now but felt it needed a refresh. We’re going with the rainbow challenge. ‘Challenge yourself to build a rainbow’ we are lucky that we have a large setting, however we know that not all children access all areas. We’re hoping that the rainbow challenge will help solve that somewhat and allow us to track the children better. We’re just starting with 2 challenges next week and will build up to the 6 over a couple of weeks. we’ll also start it in our nursery class next term. #eyfs#earlyyears#earlyyearseducation#foundationstage#continuousprovision@abcdoes
I went into school today and added a few new resources to our maths shelves. I've added a bit of colour to our maths provision, to compliment our whole school art focus next term. The top shelf is number based as we'll be doing more work on addition and subtraction, so these mathematical counting sticks are great for making number sentences. Our class are having real trouble with the "teen" numbers so I've added one writing and recognition activity (writing numbers in sand) and some Numicon with "teen" flash cards. The second shelf is shape space and measure, with a rainbow that comes apart. It is a poor mans Grimms rainbow, from a local supermarket. The natural wooden blocks are to see what they've learnt about 3D shape plus I'd like to encourage building with something other than Mobilo 🙄. On the bottom shelf I've placed a selection of stones, a sand timer and some handmade tens frames. We have math trays that the children have access to as well, but use these open shelves as a way to target our current maths theme and to help fill any gaps they may have. We'll spend the first few days getting to know the activities and will have an adult there until they become familiar with the resources. #maths#mathsprovision#mathshelves#continuousprovision#numbers#shapespaceandmeasure#countingsticks#numberrecognition#numicon#teennumbers#rainbow#woodenblocks#abacus#stones#tensframe#teachersofinstagram#earlyyears#earlymaths#earlyyearsteacher#eyfs#eyfsteacher#eyfsideas
For those of you asking, this is how my construction area currently looks. Much of it is the same as before, but I added an extra set of shelves a couple of weeks ago, so moved a few of the resources around. A mixture of blocks and recycled materials for open-ended building and engineering...
