You can also rotate your own personal book collection here, with a ‘take one, leave one’ swap system.
It's a simple container which has been upgraded to be our very own open library.📚

Book lovers may find a treat from a book fairy in Auckland this afternoon 😊
About the location:

The container library was put together by Waterfront Auckland with sixty-five dollars cash and the generous offerings of books from Auckland Council Libraries, plants from Auckland Council City Parks and some great furniture from lovely free-cycle donors. "A simple container has been upgraded to be our very own open library on the waterfront. In a picturesque setting on the Viaduct side of the Te Wero Bridge you can lay back on the bean bags and read to your heart's content." About the book:

Sometime in the 1860s Harry Head, "the Hermit of Hickory Bay" experimented unsuccessfully with flight in an isolated valley on Banks Peninsula. His story forms part of the exuberant blend of fact and fiction which constitutes this tale of hope, love, idealism and human progress. The author takes us back to the beginnings of the novel as philosophical play and serious entertainment. Think Crusoe's island, think Utopia. Twelve characters, driven by obsession, hope or the vagaries of chance, come ashore in widely different circumstances onto the same island. Once there, the game can begin.Written in two halves, this is a book to be read from either end. Begin with the past and race toward the future, or begin with the present and circle back towards the past. Time may separate the two sections yet subtle links and twisting events bring them together into a varied, intriguing and compulsive whole.

A note from our NZ book fairy:

One of my favorite places in the city: the Container Library at Wynyard Quarter. Left this interesting book there. It has two beginnings and can be started from either side. The Hopeful Traveller by New Zealand author Fiona Farrell

We have a container library under our block in Punggol. It's a cute cozy little space but Mysha just-can't-sit-still! She sat like this for about 2 seconds before she jumps around and take out all the books on the shelves so i just quickly declare,ok put on your shoes and let's go back! #MyshaohMysha #MiniSitiZed #SGkids #containerlibrary

We ❤️ this #feelgoodfriday story from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Muzi Nkosi runs a small container library for children in Cosmo City near Honeydew, Johannesburg. A pharmacist by profession, Nkosi has been running the library since April 2015 and has collected more than 5 000 books for children, which are kept in a red shipping container. "The experience has been fulfilling. It makes me happy that we are starting them young," Nkosi says with a beaming smile. "I was raised as an orphan and it was difficult for us to even afford a toy or a book. I love kids and the best way to overcome crime and poverty in life is to give them a proper education, and I think the library is the best thing that has happened in the community... I was amazed at the turnaround of the children reading our books. The country can be better if we give kids good education. We are trying to remove them from the streets... It feels great not seeing children in the streets, it feels good to make them fall in love with reading."
