Dreaming of that world beneath the waves💦. We are truly blessed to live amongst such diverse coastlines here in Cape Town.
We need to spread our love and curiosity for the oceans that wrap this earth.
We forget that we are inferior, that we are dependent and that our relationship with our waters is what keeps us as a species living on.
We are seeing detrimental new perspectives on what our progress is doing to our seas.
We are seeing the lowest creatures on the food chain mistaking micro-plastics for food. We are seeing this plastic fog move it’s way through the chain to the most intelligent creatures.
Mothers to their young, the dolphins milk killing her offspring because of the extremely high percentages of plastic molecules in her waters.
We. As. One. Species. Are thriving in destruction, in a loss of connection, in an extreme aversion to a symbiotic relationship with nature.
We are so focused on making everything EASIER. Plastic bags for our big shops, cars to move faster, fossil fuels for our growing need for industrialization, excess, everything.
Balance is hard, balance is a constant practice. But right now we HAVE to say no to the things in our control. No to single use plastic, no to takeaway coffee cups, no to packaging and no to straws. No to MEAT every now and then.
We need to face the consequences of our actions, acknowledge the war we have created between human and earth.
We need to fight for this place otherwise we may as well get comfortable in our lazy boys with our super sized buckets of artificially flavoured, genetically modified popcorn and wait for that happy ending that just ain’t coming.
There are so many small differences we can make in a day.
I’m certainly not saying I have it all figured out. But with awareness comes a duty, and I am doing my best. With awareness, comes action, so let’s start with. One.
