Something that came into my mind.
The playing cards that I’ve designed are the most successful thing I‘ve ever achieved in life.
It‘s sad. Very sad but true.
Not every deck of course. It happens way to often that I don‘t even get the credits for my work. „You get paid for your work, you don‘t write your name on the box.“
I‘ve heard that more than once.
The magic industry is so anxious and careful to give the right credits when it comes to tricks or sleights but fuck the guy who did the work for you.
I don’t want to generalize that. There are enough magicians with a bigger ego. But they are rare.
Don‘t get me wrong. You don‘t have to mention me anywhere because I get paid for the work, yes. That‘s probably the deal. But that's like saying: „hey Picasso. Wtf is that with your signature? Remove that!“
Maybe that's why I’ve almost demonstratively printed my own name on my own tuck box. Or maybe I‘m just selfish. :D
Over 40.000 decks with my designs are printed now since 2014. I‘m still not rich btw. It‘s just a cool number if you think about it.
But honestly said the first 2500 decks of my own first Black Roses are more worth for me than anything else.
It‘s not just a number. It‘s a prove that what I‘m doing is not completely wrong. And maybe it‘s a motivation for too, to jump over your own shadow. I was afraid to fail and I‘m still afraid for the next project. Maybe only not that much anymore.
I‘ll start the 2nd Black Roses Kickstarter campaign at the beginning of 2018 and of course I hope you are interested. Even though you haven‘t received the 1st edition yet. Let me know if you wanna know the color.
After the 2nd edition I will release a complete new deck. It‘s very detailed, very personal, completely different. I know you‘ll love it. And maybe it‘s possible to release this deck even without a Kickstarter campaign. I don‘t care if I can print 1000 decks or 2500. This deck needs to happen for a few reasons. And I‘m happy if you are also interested. Thank you. ♡ D.
