Deadlift is one of the best exercise to develop strength as it engages all of the major muscle groups. With proper form, deadlift can be a deadly weapon in bringing out a stronger physique.

Took some pointers from the scientist, @stanlyinsofitness on proper deadlift technique. In just 3 weeks, I was able to jump from 310 lbs to 331 lbs as my personal record on my deadlifts. My lifts are a far cry from what my #teamfirstcallouts brothers do but I am proud of mine nevertheless.

💪4 WAYS TO PROGRESS YOUR LUNGE💪

🙌 The Lunge. There is a variation for just about everyone and if you’ve been doing a particular variation for a while, well there is a version to challenge you too!

😄Split Squat - Perform this version by taking a sizable step back and keeping you feet in position, drop your back knee towards the floor, just before your knee touches the floor drive back to the top remaining in the split stance.

🤭Reverse Lunge - This includes the dynamic step back and forward step between each rep. With the added benefits of the reverse portion protecting your knee from the higher impact of a forward lunge.

😶Deficit Reverse Lunge - Start on top of a small riser, this doesn’t take very much height although you can progress the height as you feel more comfortable. Take a medium step back and again lower your knee almost to the floor before pressing through both legs and stepping back to a standing position on top of the risers.

☠️Bulgarian Split Squat - AKA the Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat, simply place your back foot on top of a bench or box and sit your back knee towards the floor. This may take a few adjustments in your setup to find the fright distance for you; This should be a front leg dominant version.

1️⃣If you’re unsure where to start, they’re laid out from least complex to most complex reading left to right. Work your way though each to challenge yourself in different way.

✅Typically between 6 and 10 reps per leg and 3 - 5 sets.

The grind is real. PB today in deadlift. 160 kg. 3 reps in two sets. No straps. No gloves. No belt. Just chalk. Woodsmen grip. I exhausted myself minutes before with deep squats at 85 kg.

Lunges‼️Want a leg exercise to help you gain size on your legs? Then implementing lunges into your leg workout is a must.

Lunges are perfect for identifying any muscular imbalances between left/right side. They are a compound exercise working more than one muscle group in your legs; glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings.

It’s quite a common exercise that I see people perform incorrectly. During the video you see I keep myself upright and get a good range of motion to keep my muscles under tension 🔑 for gaining muscle.

1️⃣ Stand tall, keep chest up and brace your core.
2️⃣ Bring one leg forward keep back leg flexed.
3️⃣ Keeping upright, lower yourself down to 90 degrees.
4️⃣ Push back up using your front leg stabilising your hip and knee whilst keeping your heels on the floor.
5️⃣ Bring back leg forward and repeat on the other leg.

I personally keep lunges till the end of a workout after squats and accessory exercises. They’re a great finisher exercise that’s gives a real burn to your legs. I am glad I was able to progress by adding a rep and setting a PR with 185 kgs x 7 reps. Working so close to my max for volume is tough as nails but as long as I maintain my strength – let alone improving it, I will celebrate a successful workout.
