Community Policing is an organization-wide philosophy and management approach that promotes community, government and police partnerships, proactive problem solving, and community engagement to address the causes of crime, fear of crime and other community issues. This definition of community policing shall be used regardless of assignment.
Community policing identifies and attempts to correct the reasons behind the calls and reported problems. It does not eliminate enforcement activity, but encourages additional ways to make a difference. Problem solving and building police-community partnerships to address crime, violence, drug abuse, and the fear of crime are key concepts for success. This attitude and approach will govern performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
