"I believe that culture is an important topic. More people need to talk about it. I think I really enjoy it more when a place is culturally more diverse. The best friendships happen naturally without considering race. Why should race impact you making friends? After university, I decided to go to China because I thought to myself that if I learnt Mandarin, it will become an asset, especially if I want to work in an Asian country in the future. So, I enrolled in a Chinese programme at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Looking back, it was probably the happiest year of my life. It was such an amazing experience and I met a diversity of people. I made a lot of friends, especially a group of close friends whom I met in the football team that I played in. I guess this is an example of when people disregard race and just bond over similar interests. We all had a common goal, and we were all teammates playing side by side each other. However, in the UK, I still get called racial slurs by 8 and 9-year-old kids when I walk down a street. Do we really need something for people to band together for before they stop being racist? It's sad that that might be the case."
