#saurkraut #commencing! This is the #firststep, #slicing the #cabbage. I got some #rubbergloves, so that I could really go for it! The blades are made of carbon steel. I got this #cabbageslicer at a #yardsale in my neighborhood a few years ago. The woman who sold it to me, said it was her grandparents. She was reckoning that it was perhaps 100 years old. I’m gonna say that though that could be true, it could also be true that it’s 70 to 80 years old. Still old. I can’t say for sure. I do know, that it kicks ass! & that one can really #shred lots of cabbage with it, very uniformly, in a short amount of time. It’s also pretty easy to clean up, with a deep sink, a firm brush, & a hot kettle of water. I’m glad for the #gloves as a layer of protection between my skin & the blades. I think that there’s some sort of chainmail glove that one is supposed to wear when doing this, not kidding. But, I’ve been going with nothing. So, at least this is something. Oh, & scrub your basin out well, & clean with boiling water first. Trying to put a bowl underneath is futile. It’s shredded cabbage, it goes where it wants to go.
