Day 21: May is #AsianHeritageMonth so every day I will be showcasing an #asiansuperhero or villain. Today is Zhou Kang aka #Thundermind of #DCComics. Thundermind is apart of a group of Chinese superheroes called "The Great Ten" created by Grant Morrison, J.G Jones, and Joe Bennett in 2006.
Zou Kang is a history teacher from China. One day on a field trip with his students to a museum, he stumbled across an ancient scroll with dialect never translated. Somehow, Zou unlocked it's meaning and spoke the words aloud: 'All Hail the Jewel in the Lotus'. This unleashed his siddhis, or supernatural Buddhist powers. That day he explored his new powers and saved a ferry boat from trouble, becoming a legend.
The greatest of the Chinese heroes, Thundermind is loved by all and is considered the Chinese #Superman. Zou even leads a double life and keeps his identity a secret. He also is in love with a woman named Wu Zhang, who happens to be in love with Thundermind, not Zou.
As Thundermind, he is a trusted member of the Great Ten.
By saying the phrase 'All hail the jewel in the lotus, Zou can transform into Thundermind, who is a Bodhisattva, which means he is the closest a human can get to a real Buddha god. The phrase also can help him focus on his telepathy, which he once used to incapacitate Green Lantern.
As Thundermind, he possesses many powers including flight, invulnerability, super speed, and strength enough to knock the Chinese god of war flying. He has heightened senses, size alternation, telepathy and telekinesis. Thundermind has the power of bilocation, the ability to be in many places at once. He can also turn invisible. Despite his amazing powers, Thundermind is a very humble person.
