It's ALWAYS been YOU before THEM. As much as I feel our expressions are a representation of us, I do feel we are still more than what we create. You'll get extra ordinary results if you do extra ordinary things and that comes with taking risks, being courageous and quite frankly, not letting society define your mentality. I've been learning the art of that for 6 years and I'm still growing with it. It came to me all of a sudden, that If I sit here putting all my energy into 'worrying' or 'fearing' about what societies going to think of my work, I'll keep stumbling and ultimately become a people pleaser. That fear isn't injected by an outside source, its a fear sitting inside you battling away with your better.
Remember, when its all said and done, while comments and critiques from others are certainly worth contemplating over, the real question is always going to be, what YOU think of it. This could be your work, and thats not just art. I mean anything. Any job title requires hard work and if you're passionate about it and proudly give it your all, power to you. Because end of the day, no matter what, someone somewhere, is ALWAYS going to have something to say and it will always be against all odds. Defy it.
What am I trying to say? Caring about what others think of you and your work shows a great value of respect. But it should not determine your worth or your actions on expressing yourself how you will. It's a battle inside your head and not between you and society. Don't fool yourself into believing you have to keep everyone happy. Make a decision, act on it and move forward. Be remarkable, you were born to be. Let someone know they're doing just fine.
