She’d send me out to the back fields to the big blackberry patch — to do some blackberry pickin’. And I’d fill my little bucket right up to the top. Come runnin back with the sweetest summer blackberry crop, and usually covered in blackberry juice, from all that hadn’t made it into my blackberry pickin’ pail. And then I’d set my bucket down at the table. I was always rewarded with a bowl of fresh blackberries in sweet cream and sugar first. Then I’d eat ‘em, get back up and run out back to play in the corn fields, husks rushing thru my hair as I’d run down the corn rows on a breezy summer day. But I’d always come runnin back when I’d smell the blackberry cobbler at its apex, baking and bubbling in the oven, piping hot and it’s sweetness wafting in the summer breeze....and ready to be eaten. That’s what’s really baked into this blackberry cobbler: those delicious memories and that love you can taste in every bite, but just can’t replicate in a recipe on a piece of paper.
