@bgwed2016 hails from the #southside of #Chicago. She graduated from #HowardUniversity's #SchoolofC with a focus on #LegalCommunications in 2008. Brittany graduated from #AmericanUniversity Washington #CollegeofLaw (AUWCL) in 2012. Brittany is an attorney and educator in the Greater Washington, Dc area. Brittany recently returned to AUWCL as the Assistant #Director of Student Competition Teams and Adjunct Professor. Brittany embodies Howard’s values of #truthandservice and lives that out in both her personal and professional lives. Brittany’s work as a #publicdefender has afforded world class counsel to the indigent and she has dedicated the next step in her career to helping craft the #advocacy skills of tomorrow’s #lawyers.
From teaching #constitutionalliteracy from high school students to being recognized by her peers for being an outstanding #litigator, Brittany is the definition of a true #HowardMOVEMAKER. Not only has Brittany made moves, but her moves have made room for others to make their own moves. Her moves have been made silently, in courtrooms from Brooklyn, New York to Baltimore, Maryland, bringing hope and prosperity back into the lives of those whom many counted out. Her moves were shown as a student at #AUWCL when she received the highest grade designation at the Alexandria Public Defender Externship, CriminalDefense Theory and Practice, and #Criminal Justice Clinic – Defense; she received many awards including the Black Women’s Bar Association of Suburban Maryland’s Book Scholarship, the J. Franklyn Bourne Scholarship, the Mooers Trophy Award for excellence in Trial Advocacy, and the Peter M. Cicchino Public Service Award; competed at 4 national competitions with the Mock Trial Honor Society (MTHS) receiving individual awards for “Best Advocate” and “Perfect Score;” and acted as the Managing Director of the MTHS, Staff Writer for the American Jurist, Community Service Chair for the #BlackLawStudentsAssociation, and a Teaching Fellow for the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project.
