Fun day in the forest 🌲🐶

Climate Tip: Take a shower instead of a bath. A shower takes up to four times less energy than a bath. To maximize the energy saving, avoid power showers and use low-flow showerheads, which are cheap and provide the same comfort. 💚 globalwarming-facts.info

‪CARBON. Teaser out on #27thJuly 🌏 #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming #Carbon

India has delivered on climate action in a big way! 🌍🍃💪🏽In signing the Paris climate agreement, India took a leap of faith—that it could bring clean energy and prosperity to its people while meeting the global obligation to future generations.

26 July is International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.
Mangrove ecosystems provide benefits and services that are essential for life. From advancing food security, sustaining fisheries and forest products and offering protection from storms, tsunamis and sea level rise to preventing shoreline erosion, regulating coastal water quality and providing habitats for endangered marine species -- the list is long on the importance of mangrove ecosystems. This includes the unique role that they play in sequestering and storing significant amounts of coastal blue carbon from the atmosphere and ocean, crucial for mitigating climate change.
UNESCO is drawing on all of its strengths -- through its Man and the Biosphere Programme, its International Hydrological Programme, its Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and the Local and Indigenous Knowledge Systems Programme -– to protect mangrove ecosystems. We must reverse the trend of degradation and protect the mangroves that are so essential to the health of the planet.

I'm happy to hear Vail Resorts has to decided to follow @whistlerblackcomb's lead and commit to a zero net operating footprint by 2030. It's inspiring to hear of more and more companies stepping up. It seems to me we are crossing the tipping point toward a green economy and sustainable future. Thoughts? .

Researchers have found that as climate change pushes up Arctic temperatures, ice is melting earlier in spring and refreezing later in autumn. Your Shot photographer David Cothran discovered this scene of a polar bear taking a rest on a patch of ice. “We watched this bear walk across the melting ice for some time before it finally sat down and looked back at us. This is the bear’s unique world: the frozen ocean,” writes Cothran. “All around the planet the ocean is constantly changing - calm to storm, crystal blue to steel grey, liquid to solid. These cycles of change are enormous and ancient, yet fragile. How much longer before they are broken? Before the bear’s beautiful world is gone?”

Our life is an adventure. Broaden your mind, overcome your fears and fulfill your dreams.

We dream to protect our planet - together we can make it happen. What's your dream?

This is Christian.

In 2009 he founded Ecosia. Until now he has been busy building it. So it was not until this year that he got a chance to visit one of the tree-planting projects that his search engine is supporting.

Visiting the project in Indonesia was a very important experience for Christian. It made him understand that tree-planting is not as simple as it seems.

Talking to locals, sharing a house with them and planting trees himself, he understood that one also needs to take the local, geographical and social context of each project into consideration. Christian observed how weather conditions in Borneo are perfect for trees to grow fast. The problem is that big, multinational companies know this too. That’s why the Palm Oil industry took such an interest in this part of the world.

But how could it have been so easy for these companies to convince local farmers to sell off their lands to them? Christian realised that it’s because farmers had to sell their forestland in order to have enough income to survive. For us, this means one thing: Tree planting is not just about planting trees. It’s about creating alternative economic models so that locals can actually afford to protect their forests. By planting highly productive trees that thrive in mixed forests and can be harvested non-destructively, humans and nature both win.

And that’s why your searches on Ecosia are important. We thank you for making this possible.

Climate change doesn't have to mean horror and destruction - some places are slated to #benefit from its progression. Take #Siberia. The word conjures images of endless white tundra and freezing, dark winters. With #climate change, those images could soon become visions of #fertile farmland. As the U.S. National Intelligence Council noted in 2008, Russia “has the potential to gain the most from increasingly temperate weather.”
.
Much of that gain will come from boosts to the #agricultural and #mining sectors. Yakutsk, the capital city of the Sakha Republic in #Russia, is already a major supplier of diamonds, and has large reserves of gold and other minerals. According to an article by Serge Korepin, the retreat of the Siberian permafrost zone spells an even greater boom for mineral resource extraction. By 2050, #permafrost could retreat by more than 100 miles, exposing previously inaccessible land to #exploration and #extraction.
.
Economist Svetlana Soboleva says #warming temperatures mean similar growth for Russian #agriculture. Retreating permafrost exposes new land for cultivation – land that’s never been used for farming before, and therefore is still rich in nutrients. Longer growing #seasons across the north and east of #Russia will mean a particularly productive future for places like #Yakutsk.

There may be no greater, growing threat facing the world’s children – and their children – than #climatechange. Extreme weather events – which as a result are becoming more frequent and more intense – are likely to affect 175 million children a year. via @unicefwater💧#Burundi #wateris #regram

Last week, a trillion-ton, 5,800 square kilometer iceberg (now named A68) broke off Antarctica's Larsen C ice shelf. It has drifted 1.5 miles since then and has already started to break up.
.
While most scientists believe the calving of A68 occurred due to natural causes, the future of the remaining Larsen C ice shelf and others alike is intertwined with global climate change. Rising temperatures could melt them and send land ice tumbling into the sea faster, raising sea levels around the world.
.
As citizens of the world, we must recognize the impact we have on our planet - as individuals, communities and society as a whole - and as such hold ourselves and our lawmakers accountable to choose long-term sustainability over short-term gains, biodiversity over extinction, and cooperation over competition.

Alon Shalev, AJWS’s Executive Director of San Francisco and the Western Region, provides today’s #JewishJusticeReads: “I am currently reading "This Changes Everything" by Naomi Klein. Who wouldn’t read about the destruction of the world for their summer read! What I am enjoying thus far is the unapologetic way that Ms. Klein spotlights the need to change the way we run our economies if we are to truly impact climate change – and she has some ideas how it can happen.”⠀

This is an older post, but I think we can all agree amongst all this hatred and disgustingness, we need to express and BE LOVE!!❤️❤️❤️ Honestly, I'm having a really hard time with this. A very hard time🤦🏾‍♀️😔. ⠀

But someone who I admire a lot @vanjones68, for so many different reasons, shared a few words that for one reason or another, I always come back to: "When it gets harder to love, love harder". ⠀
