Really great to meet one of the worlds leading climate scientists Dr Emily Shuckburgh last night at the Science museum. She spends a lot of her time in isolated Polar regions with the British Antarctic survey as part of her research into the global climate system. As the Earth reaches record temperatures and Antarctic sea ice continues to diminish, her passion for the natural world and yours is more important now than ever! Sign up to #EarthHour to show your support for our beautiful planet. You can also pick up a copy of the LadyBird book "Climate Change", co written with Tony Juniper and HRH The Prince of Wales. #EarthHour #climatechange #SaveYourPlanet

Photo by @michaelmelford Our last stop in South Georgia was at Nordensjjold glacier. Want to feel small? Just visit this glacier that is a mile and a half along it's front. Two zodiacs give it some scale. Glaciers are "rivers of ice" that start as snow way up in the mountains and over years accumulate, and get packed and become ice that flows downhill. By the time the ice gets to the sea to the sea, it can be over a thousand years old! Most of the glaciers of the world are getting smaller, both in height and length, with some retreating at an alarming rate. Could this be a result of carbon emissions and climate change? Research and find out for yourself so it is not fake news! #natgeoexpeditions #glacier #southgeorgia #travel #photography #climatechange

By 2080, Burrowing Owls could lose 77 percent of their current breeding range and only 33 percent of their winter range is predicted to remain intact, according to Audubon’s climate models. ⠀

Photo by @NASA Celebrate Earth Hour! Turn off your lights for one hour at 8:30 pm, your local time, on Saturday March 25, to show solidarity with Planet Earth and demonstrate our global commitment to fighting climate change. Landmarks all over the world will go dark including the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Sydney Opera House, and the Las Vegas Strip. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour, an initiative that was first organized by the World Wildlife Fund in Australia and has grown into a worldwide movement. Join in! We can all be heroes for our planet. This image is the perfect symbol for island Earth, our home.

@sexplatoon is fantastic

Arctic sea ice appears to have reached a record low wintertime maximum extent on March 7, according to scientists at NASA and the NASA-supported National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado. And on the opposite side of the planet, on March 3 sea ice around Antarctica hit its lowest extent ever recorded by satellites at the end of summer in the Southern Hemisphere, a surprising turn of events after decades of moderate sea ice expansion.

The sea ice “maximum” occurs at the end of the winter cold season and marks the day of the year when sea ice reaches its largest extent. Ice extent is a measurement of the area of ocean where there is at least some sea ice.
