The Mae Trio with opening by Karen Mercer will perform on September 16th! 😀😍 Folk Singer Karen Mercer grew up in a large Irish American musical family and has been singing all her life. Karen started writing original music in her 20s and continues to be a prolific singer-songwriter. Her eclectic repertoire blends Southwestern swing, blues, jazz, bluegrass and folk, delivered with sweet articulate vocals and haunting, soulful lyrics. In addition to her own unique style, Karen’s musical influences include Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell.
Melbourne’s The Mae Trio return with their unique contemporary twist on folk music with their sophomore album, Take Care Take Cover, released May 2017.
The trio are Maggie Rigby (banjo, ukulele, guitar and vocals), sister Elsie Rigby (violin, ukulele and vocals andAnita Hillman (cello, bass and vocals). Their debut album, Housewarming, released in 2013 features songs that the trio had written before they even finished school earned hem Folk Alliance Australia Youth Award and NFSA Folk Recording of the Year and carried them on a bigger wave than they could ever have imagined.
The Trio took to the road for the last two years touring Australia, Canada, USA and Europe with performances at the Hydro Stadium at Celtic Connection, Glasgow, Americana Folk Festival, Nashville, Cambridge Folk Festival, UK Edmonton Folk Festival, Canada, and Port Fairy and National Folk Festivals, Australia.
