SALT (SALINE) TASTE // In Ayurvedic terms salt (Lavana) predominates in Jala (water) and Agni (fire) elements. Drugs and diets having saline taste are carminative (also known as gas removers;)) & digestive, antispasmodic and laxative. They liquidize Kapha dosha and clear the channels of circulation and increase the taste of food. Used in excess they can aggravate pitta dosa and aggravation of Rakta: thirst, retention of water, inflammation, heating sensation, premature wrinkling, greying of hair. Besides rock salt, a.o. seaweeds and soy can be considered as having the salty taste.
