Back in the 90s, pre internet, we had pen pals. It was a pretty exciting thing to wait for a letter from someone across the globe.
The internet, for better or worse, has killed this. Now we can chat, share photos and see each other’s lives instantaneously. On all accounts, this is far better than waiting days or weeks for a letter; a letter whose events were already outdated.
However, this Christmas, social media has once again challenged my perception of it. Firstly, it was earlier this year when I saw how a platform accused of distancing people, actually came together and humbled me with their strength of love and support. Now it has happened again as we write copious Christmas cards and check the letterbox with anticipation for all of yours.
I haven’t hand written letters, or really anything, for so long and we thoroughly enjoyed it. You’ll have to excuse my handwriting; I’m sorely out of practice. And each envelope has been sealed by Jerry (kidding, they weren’t).
Merry Christmas, everyone!
