Jesus commands us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves ( Mark 12:31 NKJV). We're quick to say, "I love the Lord," but a lot can be said about the way we treat each other. Jesus said, "If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1 John 4:20). Let that marinate for a minute.
Soo, you're praying for a spouse to love you, yet you haven't perfected your love for others.
Love (God's love) is essential for a strong and healthy union, not your eyebrows, hips or anything else you think is cute. Love is a prerequisite for the power to forgive, an open door for grace and mercy, which you'll neeed loads of when you're married. If you don't know how to love, chances are, after the music fades your marriage will be off to a rocky start.
Who repeatedly pinches your nerves and challenges you to love God's way? They're not in your life by accident. God wants to perfect His love in you to prepare you for your greatest ministry, marriage. Use your time wisely and work on love!
My Pastor always say, "It's impossible to hate someone you're praying for." Start there!
Father, thank you for my sisters. We're forever grateful for your scandalous demonstration of love, for sending your only son to die for our sins. He didn't do it because we were good, but because he loves us. Some of us can't comprehend your love because we either never experienced love on earth or it was poorly modeled. But teach us to love your way. Give us grace to love difficult co-workers, cantankerous family members and backbitting friends. Write your definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13 on our hearts, and give us wisdom to apply them in tangible ways. In Jesus' name. Amen! #Godslove
