HUNGRY HIJABI's KALA CHANA RECIPE
Inundated with requests asking for a traditional #Bengali kala chana recipe so here we are. At mums house the #fresh beans are used where she prepares it herself by soaking and boiling. It can be quite a cumbersome task but trust me it's a much better option.
But if you're anything like Hungry Hijabi, busy busy, kids whinging around you and you're short for time then this is the #recipe for you.
I would recommend the sanam brand. Its selling very well in the #Asian grocery stores this #Ramadan. A bargain too!
To make a really #tasty chana dry dish you need LOTS of onions so for 2 cans I have used 2 large onions, you can use 4 medium onions. Slice it thin and caramelise in a pan with 1/4 cup of oil on slow heat with the lid on. Once golden brown you can add 2small tsp of salt and a pinch of sugar to enhance the sweetness of the onions.
This process can take up to half an hour but it's worth it, you can get on with other #kitchen chores. Thereafter add 2tbsp of #sweet tomato paste, 1tsp curry powder I use rajah mild, 1/2 tsp chilli powder because of the children and 1tsp coriander powder. Mix that thoroughly for 10/15 minutes with the addition of small cubed potatoes. I used 2large red potatoes.
The last 10minutes, you can add the washed and drained kala sana and top it with #gorgeous garden green coriander about a cupful and as many of few green #chillis as you love ... Enjoy it dears, this ones a #winner, in my #tummy anyway 😋😋😋 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
