One of my favorite parts of competing is the interactions with people along the way! Seeing old friends and making new ones 😊 psyched to be closing down 2015 with the @southcentralclassic! I did a lot of #reading on my recent holiday and this was one of the books I really got into - #PlayingBig by @tarasophiamohr. While I do read novels, a lot of what I read these days is about personal development (for me and my clients). I'd definitely highly recommend it to any of you, whether you run your own business, are working or are at home with the kids....it gives some great food for thought on how to expand your own life.

But one of the best things about it was this particular little section - about the fact that #willpower really doesn't exist. I wrote about it on this very page a few weeks ago as I am more convinced than ever that the idea of willpower is actually quite destructive when we're trying to reach our goals. So you can imagine the massive smile on my face when I read this...I'm not the only one that thinks it!

We all talk about it as the thing that we need to see us through - whether it’s #exercising more, eating less sugar or getting up earlier. When we fail we blame our lack of willpower, and beat ourselves up. Not helpful.

So, instead, I like to think in terms of building new habits. What little things do you need to do to build healthier new habits and what little actions can you take each day to get you there?

New #Mums go through a lot - recovering from #pregnancy, sleep deprivation and lifting and carrying #babies and #toddlers around all day. And this is true at 6 weeks, 6 months or even 1 year #postnatal!

The result? #Aches, #pains, #soreness, #tightness and general niggles. The answer, before starting to #exercise again is to do some #stretches and #releases that are going to relieve any niggles (particularly around the shoulders and neck) and rebalance the body.

#Chest Release - new mums spend a lot of time sitting to feed, pushing prams, carrying babies. The result? Tight chest muscles and rounded shoulders. This chest release is just the ticket to help combat that.

I was recently at my parents’ house, and as well as eating too much cheesecake and brie, I was having a look at some of my year 9 school reports.

Turns out I wasn't exactly the best student in Physical Education at that point in my life! I had always loved #sport - I did rounders, netball, athletics, even ice skating, which I absolutely loved. And later in life did rowing at both school and university.

But I really remember at this point in my life I had tried my absolute best to get into the various teams and was always a trier when it came to games and P.E. (except gym - I was not happy about the leotards!) But unfortunately I was never particularly gifted. I never really made any of the teams and I think that really started to turn me off....however hard I tried I just never quite seemed to be good enough. Which meant I stopped doing a lot of the things I had previously enjoyed.

And isn't that the thing that most often puts us off? The fear of not being good enough, of people seeing us and thinking we look a bit silly, or simply feeling that we just won't be good enough to take part? Luckily, with age has come the wisdom to see that it really is the taking part that counts - I may never be the best in the room, I might not get picked for teams, but that's not going to stop me from giving it a good go and enjoying the amazing effects of exercise.

So don't let your lack of confidence or fear of not being good enough stop you from getting out there and enjoying exercise. As the saying goes, you'll be lapping everyone else who's on the couch!

It still surprises me that even in 2017, for many people, cardio is queen. When we think #weightloss, we think #calorie burn, we think hours spent sweating and pounding the streets. The longer we can spend punishing ourselves with cardio the more weight we'll lose, right? 
But what if I told you there was a quicker, more effective and infinitely more efficient way to lose weight? I'm not saying cardio is out - there are too many brilliant #health benefits. However, when it comes to changing your body, the absolute best thing you can do for yourself is train with resistance. You need to build #muscle, because muscle will result in a more toned appearance. Plus, and this is the amazing bit, the more muscle you have the more calories your body will burn every minute of the day (even while you're sleeping). Using #resistance means you can spend less time working out for better results.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that pretty much all of the toned, honed #Instagram stars out there aren't running 5 times a week - they're in the #gym, lifting weights or doing high intensity interval training. Try it, you might surprise yourself!

Good stuff happening this morning.

1. I've put the husband to work hanging mirrors etc in the studio....1 down 2 to go.
2. I've been lifting actual heavy #weights for the first time in years. Now we have the space for the equipment and a #squat rack I can really get to work! I've really enjoyed my #hiit sessions recently but this is what I really love doing.

3. I've designated this summer 'project: pert bum'

4. Turns out the mirrors are really flattering.
So with all that going on I think we can gloss over the few chocs I took from the kids this morning while they were having their morning sweets.
