I finally gave the belt bag a chance (aka fanny pack-AE or bum bag-BE). Wasn’t sure if it was just another nostalgic flashback from the 80s and 90s, which would disappear as quickly as it came, so was skeptical for a while, but the thought that I will be walking around hands-free made me go for it. What this bag design represents (functionality, comfort, liberation) is priceless, especially for a modern woman, so I believe it will stay for a while. .
I always just wanted to grab a card holder, phone, keys, a lipstick and go. And even the smaller bags or clutches would not do the trick. You know that feeling when you always have to adjust that strap on your shoulder, or on your elbow, something you always have to be conscious about, something that you need to watch. Well, with the belt bag I found the degree of comfort I needed, but didn’t feel underdressed either. Especially because the bum bags have undergone a great transformation. They became refined and stylish, unlike their synthetic predecessors with questionable reputation from the 80s and 90s.
For the ladies with pronounced hips and fuller waists - I’d abstain from wearing such bags directly on the waist and the hips, as the attention will be drawn directly to those areas and they will automatically appear larger and fuller. The good news is that this bag can be worn as a cross body as well, so try this way instead!
Also wear it above blazers, trenches and sweaters. Wear it with classic pants and skirts. It comes in different forms, sizes and colors, so for each style identity you can find your own. The online stores offer tons of them atm. Swipe to see some street style pics.
