What I have noticed about myself after being absent from my routine for the last week (due to sickness🤢):
1. I have built my worth into my self-improvement and personal development and work for others. Instead of valuing myself for simply being me, I have continued to value myself based on my productivity and services.
2. My self-love has been superficial, because not being able to train and eat normally = me feeling bad about my body.
3. I yammer on about self-care all the time but it has been incredibly difficult for me to practice intentional rest and self-care this week.
I feel like everything I’ve ever said on my account is a facade. I preach about so many things that I myself struggle to practice. If I have ever given you the impression that I don’t struggle with basic things like loving myself and taking care of myself, then I’m sorry for being misleading. It is a daily struggle and any progress feels fragile.
But that’s just the raw authenticity of the human experience, isn’t it? Growth isn’t linear, but messy and all over the place. Filled with ups and downs and steps forward and steps backwards and falling down and standing back up.
It’s a journey towards becoming better, not becoming perfect.
This last week has been a reminder for me that I don’t have it all together. And as humbling as that has been, I am grateful for the lesson.
And as a reminder to you, if you sometimes guilt yourself for not having it all together while other people appear to: your journey is your journey. It’s not anyone else’s. If someone does have it together, good for them. But your life is your own dance; it’s your own routine. Be present in every moment and be open to the lessons instead of allowing comparison to steal away those life-enhancing opportunities. •
In related news, I finally got back to the gym today after over a week off, and it felt so 👏🏻 good 👏🏻
Exercise has changed my life for the better in so many ways, and it can change yours too. If you’re wanting to get started, but don’t know where to begin, get with my and let me help you. I love getting to share my passion for movement with others, and I love love love being able to help ❤️
