Happy Saturday beautiful people 🖤
It’s been awhile since I’ve shared my story, so here it goes...
Basketball was and still is my life. Growing up my dad was a basketball coach, so I was always in the gym. College basketball then playing professionally was always my dream. After spending countless hours in the gym, I was blessed to check off that first dream by getting a scholarship to play basketball at Colorado State University. I didn’t get there easily though...My freshman year in high school is where it all began. I dislocated my right (shooting) shoulder for the first time and had my first surgery that summer. Little did I know that that first injury would completely change my life down the road. Throughout college I continues to struggle with my shoulder...over 4 years in college I racked up 3 more shoulder surgeries, all on my right shoulder. After my major surgery, which left me with a pretty cool scar...I had to call it quits. I then became a student Assistant Coach for my last year on Scholarship and fell in love....with COACHING. I went to school and graduated with a Sports Medicine degree, but my plan to become a nurse, physical therapist, or athletic trainer changed immediately.
Throughout my years in college working out was my job. I did it only so I could be the best basketball player I could possibly be....with the help of some incredible people (@annielopez82 @coachjpstrength) Throw in some adversity, trials, and lots of tears...working out wasn’t fun or easy for me anymore. After I was done playing and only coaching...I had zero motivation to workout. So I signed up for a Half Marathon, just so I’d have something to work for...and it worked 😁 Ever since then, working out has become one of my passions.
The challenge of pushing my body beyond its limits, doing things I never thought I’d be able to do after 4 shoulder surgeries, being sore every single day when I wake up because I killed it in the gym the day before and then, finally seeing the results I’ve been working for...that’s what I love.
Life will throw you curve balls, change your plans unexpectedly, but....
NEVER EVER SETTLE.
