We are very much looking forward to welcoming celebrated gardener and organic grower @charles_dowding to the farm this September. Book in as Charles takes our guests through a practical demonstration on mulching, hoeing, multi-sowing and other techniques, methods, hints and tips for the garden - all with an organic approach in mind. Sean's Kitchen Garden: As you know, this Summer I've been busy with my new job and haven't had the amount of time needed to tend the plot. Therefore, the kitchen garden isn't looking its best. I am therefore going to use the opportunity and start from scratch as if it was a new plot.
I'll be filming the process and you'll see that when the videos for Sean's Kitchen Garden restart in September. This is how the section is looking like today. The plan is to remove all the structure, re-level the ground and implement the methods of Charles Dowding's no-dig gardening. Come on the journey with me from this Autumn to next Summer. #seanskitchengarden#thehortchannel#charlesdowding#nodiggardening#growyourown
I just realised that I did only take two photos at Cph Garden today (so you'll get one from my own garden) - probably because it was pouring down and I spent most of the time in a tent, listening to some really interesting talks by the Danish actor (among others) Hella Joof, and by Charles Dowding, who is known for his 'No Dig' gardening methods. #cphgarden2017#hellajoof#charlesdowding#fuglebaekgaardblomster
Not an exciting photo, but just showing what the no-dig end of the plot looks like now the tomatoes and squashes are cleared. Look at #nodigallotmentbefore to see how it started off, and #nodigallotmentsummer to see what it looked like a few months ago. Just raked it over and the soil is light, rich and friable. Got my onions and garlic in there, and just burning the blighted tomatoes. I'm a no dig convert now! #nodig#allotment#charlesdowding
This is the start of no dig following advice from several Facebook groups and charles dowding advice. I have covered the plot in cardboard then manure and will be covering with a fabric weed membrane until spring. . . . . .
Looking forward to a day in the garden. Hopefully 🌞 than last week, when lots of mulching done; compost topped with a layer of leaf mulch & wood ash scattered. Garlic and broad beans planted. Today, #charlesdowding suggested over-winter spring onion seeds going in. And possibly, if I’m feeling brave enough, hedge trimming & bramble removal 😬😭🚑 #tw
No, not little squashes but Aunt Gerties Gold Tomatoes. Unbelievable production from these beefsteak type this year. The best yield out of all my slicers. I was almost going to give up on growing bigger tomatoes next year. These may have changed my mind. 🌱
The Marigolds in our garden continue to provide us with an abundance of colour as we cling on to the last flickers of summer. I'll be doing a seed giveaway at the end of the summer which will include a handful of these wonderful things 🌺

Whoever said size doesn't matter was lying. 😏 Look at these absolute beasts! I've decided squash are my second favourite thing to grow. So many cool varieties. 😍 All seed are from @bakercreekseeds Featuring Candy Roaster, Spaghetti and Delicata Squashes 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂
Gardening by the moon. I have four more days to plant my seeds. I've been getting a little done each day, so I'm ready to plant out when the soil is warmer. (I save my own or buy from www.theseedcollection.com.au ) This is so much fun! The calendar I'm using comes from this link. https://au.rhythmofnature.net/gardener-calendar . I've heard of this age old method before but only got serious about learning after reading books by Charles Dowding. I've learned so much from him. Time to sow seed! 🌰😀🌱😀🌱😀🌰 #gardening#veggiepatch#gardenbythemoon#garden#moon#theseedcollection#sowingseeds#charlesdowding
