Autopilot! You know that moment you’re driving, a song plays in the background that you can’t stand and didn’t even realize it was on, and you’ve passed miles and miles, and don’t recall one moment of the drive. You read several pages and realize you don’t remember a single thing. I saw a post yesterday that declared it was 99 days until Christmas. Their response, “Where has the year gone?”. How many of us do this year-after-year? Perhaps we wake up and realize years and years flew by. And tomorrow, so many of us will be on autopilot...again. It took me losing people and parts of my life to recognize that autopilot leads to complacency and disconnection. Every day, I try and take a new road (literally)...meet a new friend...read a new verse or page. Routines and habits can be beneficial. But certain ones can rob us of experiences and life. Yesterday, I drove up an unknown dirt road on my way up through a canyon I navigate routinely. The views, colors and experience were like a jolt of life. So today, I made sure my mom’s final day visiting me was filled with a simple, yet mesmerizing experience as she saw a new perspective of a lake that she knew as a young woman when she was married to my dad. In one month, I’ve lost a classmate to addiction and one to cancer. Came home feeling overwhelmed by my grad school course and day at work which would normally leave me wanting to push play on my workout ASAP! Today, all I wanted was time with Nick so instead we took a nice walk around our block a few times and I followed it up with yoga outside 🧘🏻‍♀️Although I’m not going to say I’m feeling 💯 percent better, I’m definitely in a clearer state to sit down and try to accomplish this assignment! Oh the joys of grad school and adulthood 😳 sometimes it’s all about listening to your body and allowing yourself some grace! Happy Tuesday friends 💕

I took the personality test that gives you 4 letters to describe who you are and why you do things you do. In case anyone cares, I’m an ENFP. What does that mean? Basically I’m the Campaigner. I’m great at rallying people together. Being friendly and including all. Having a project idea (but can never start or finish it🤔) I struggle to stay on task when alone and lack motivation to fulfill my own dreams. I really can’t stand that personality trait😒

Everywhere on the internet you can find people telling you to chase your dream, fight for the life you want, change or become who you want to be. Each time I’d say “ YES! I want to change, I’m taking the first step, I’m going to do it!” But never do🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m the epitome of all talk with no action. And that hurts. A lot.

No one has told me this, no has needed to. I figured this out a long time ago, but why haven’t I changed? Because I’m an ENFP of course! How can I change, this is who I am! (Please insert the loudest sarcastic voice and biggest eye roll 🙄) That test explains the WHY behind my habitual behavior, but it does not define my future.

Breaking the unbreakable is my everyday goal and I fail daily!! But some days I DO break the habit and that’s my motivation and PROOF it is possible to change my current habits. I may be an ENFP but that doesn’t mean I’ll never start my own business, or complete online school, or finally get a cleaning schedule down🤦🏼‍♀️ I want to break what I used to deem “unbreakable” habits. No not want...I NEED to break them. Because right now, they’re tearing me down rather than lifting me up. #breaktheunbreakable

The unconscious mind *hates* change.

It figures that--since you’re still alive--whatever you were doing must be good enough, whereas anything else is risky. Changing something could mean making it worse. It could mean pain, even death.

So it resists change as much as it can.

For example, your mind has a comfort zone for happiness, and it’ll do whatever it takes to stay there--like a thermostat does with temperature.

Go too far below your happiness setpoint and your mind will push you to change things and increase your happiness back up.

Go too far above your setpoint and your mind will push you to do things that will adjust you back down.

Happy people who have business windfalls may start fighting with their spouses, spending too much money, or party so much that it affects their work. They may suddenly start forgetting important details or appointments, start filling themselves up with junk food, or even cheating on their partners.

If you feel like you’ve hit an upper limit in business, relationships, or pretty much anywhere else in life--it could be because your mind is pushing back against you leaving your happiness comfort zone.
