Shoulder press! Whether it is seated, dumbells or barbells it's common practise for many to have various forms and techniques that don't engage the shoulder muscle to it's maximum potential. Such as swaying the back which puts the load on the back and not shoulders. This can also encourage people to imitate a chest press and put the load more so on the chest than the shoulders by leaning back. Many half range so half the contraction, less load and time under tension = less intensity. Ideally, partials used at the end as a failure technique. Push pressing is great and has its benefits and places in training but shouldn't be the only way you shoulder press Push pressing (that I use at the end) is a great failure technique where you drive it through the body to get the last rep. Strict pressing should be used in your programme if you want to really load the shoulder and Improve strength.
Here I demo how I like to shoulder press, aiming for my shoulders as the range target on each rep, using my core to stabilise the exercise, not swaying my back, focus on the engagement of the shoulders when pressing and when it gets tough, partial or push pressing at the end as a post failure technique.
