SUPPORT YOUR LGS. Remember that feeling when you found out the comic store finally had new boxes of boosters, or that must-have-rare in stock? Nowadays, with global cardstock so readily available online, some of that special feeling of finding has dissipated.
Therefore, I make it a thing to stop by my local gaming stores first before buying online. It's so satisfying. Many times it pays off, too. Not only do you make great finds, but you make friends- engage in sharing ideas, and creating personal relationships.
Shoutout to Epic Adventure Games in Scotts Valley for hooking it up on some staples no one else locally had, at aggressively low prices.
(For those interested, these were my first two Preachers, my 3rd and 4th Gargoyles, my 6th Lion(?), and my 4th Chain Lightning - in loved, but very playable condition.)
To those of you looking to become Old Schoolers yourselves, this is a great way to get started on a budget. Many established LGS have tons of old cardboard selling slowly. Even in bulk, there can be great finds! Mono black, Mono White, even the basic parts of Lestree Zoo can still be gotten on the cheap from the bargain bins. Take the time to search for motivated sellers. (And buy locally!)
