Aloo Tikki in the works, VK Chaat, Outside Sunder Apartments, Paschim Vihar, Delhi.
Whenever I visit Delhi, two/three dishes have almost become a pilgrimage. Those are Matar Kulche, Chole Bhature and the Dilli favorite, Aloo Tikki.
These three are delicious at most street vendors in Delhi, and the taste of even the worst here cannot be unfortunately found in Mumbai. Therefore, even at the risk of over eating, these need to be ticked off every single time.
This vendor puts out his stall outside our Delhi house in Sunder Apartments since more than 15 years (that's the extent I remember), and their lineage comes from Sitaram Bazaar. He has catered to our family functions, and always delivers in terms of the taste.
What I like in his Aloo Tikki is that the patty is fried just right, the exterior is cruchy enough, yet not to make it a papad, as BTW in Janakpuri does. It's cooked through well and is soft on the inside and the chutneys and masala make it a simple, yet addictive affair. No frills around paneer chunks, pomegranates etc. here, and no Dahi is my personal preference when having a Tikki.
Doesn't still match the real Sitaram Bazaar standards though, but is absolute value for money, with added convenience to boot !
