There are 4 main categories of modifiable risk factors that cause increased injury risk for ACL, but can be addressed through proper training.
🔴Ligament Dominance – these athletes do not properly recruit their knee musculature. Therefore, the athlete must rely on the passive ligaments for knee stability, often seen through a combination of hip internal rotation, knee valgus and tibial external rotation. This causes high stress to the ACL and can lead to severe injury.
🔴Quadriceps Dominance – these athletes tend to activate their knee extensors preferentially over their knee flexors this over-reliance on the quadriceps muscle leads to imbalances. Since the ACL is under the most stress during knee internal rotation near extension, the ACL is at greater risk for injury in these individuals.
🔴Leg Dominance - these athletes have imbalances in strength, coordination, and control between the two lower extremities, often over relying on a single leg during play. These leg-to-leg imbalances are common due to sport-specific requirements of one leg versus the other leg.
🔴Trunk Dominance - these athletes demonstrate excessive trunk movement due to inadequate core muscle contraction patterns. The excessive trunk motions, especially in the frontal and coronal planes, add a higher ground reaction force, increasing the knee abduction torque and stress to the ACL.

HRV Series Part 3: How can you measure your HRV?
Not too many years ago the only way to measure heart rate variability was with an ECG in a hospital or laboratory setting. New technology gives athletes a fairly accurate understanding of their heart rhythms, thus level of parasympathetic dominance. These devices usually require a chest strap heart rate monitor and a simple phone app. Some of the most commonly used devices include:

HRV Series Part 2: What is HRV ❤️❤️... Heart Rate Variability is the variation in time intervals between heartbeats. The heart is not meant to function like a metronome. In fact, greater time variability between heart beats is an indication of sympathetic nervous system robustness. This drill is our "go-to" for athletes and clients that have trouble maintaining neutral spine and glute engagement with dynamic hip hinging. 🔵video on the LEFT is for thos with a "butt wink", posterior pelvic tilt, counter nutation
🔴video on the RIGHT is for those with a severe over-extension fault, anterior pelvic tilt, and excessive nutation ☑️maintain contact with the dowel from your head down to your pelvis
☑️screw your feet into the ground, R foot clockwise, L foot counterclockwise to activate your glutes
☑️maintain that torsion as you hinge at the hip
☑️prime your glutes and motor plan by performing this drill 2x15 before pulling from the ground or squatting

Study by Ohta et al. showed the advantages of using Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training following ACL reconstruction as seen ⬆️⬆️ After a 16 week rehabilitation program, subjects who used BFR had restored quad strength to 84% and size to 101% while subjects without BFR lagged behind at 63% strength and 92% size, when compared to the uninjured leg. This increase in muscle size and strength allow a quicker return to athletic activity. Watching everyone go for a heavy single on snatch and clean and jerks on Tuesday was so much fun. It’s always great to see the Soul crew hitting big numbers. Prepping and hyping them up was all different depending on the athlete. Some needed to get riled up while others I simply had to whisper in their ear to get focused and show everyone what they could do. There ain’t no cookie cutter way to motivate everyone. Know how to motivate each and every athlete you train.
