"When FDNY members arrived on scene, there were approximately seven people coming out of the water. EMS units rendered first aid and our Rescue units put three divers in the water for about an hour to search the area. Conditions were very murky, they didn't have a lot of visibility down there. They were working off of a 50 ft rope so they did cover a lot of area," says #FDNY Deputy Chief John Schof, who describes the scene in #CentralPark earlier this evening when multiple patients fell through the ice and into the water. Of the seven patients, six were treated for hypothermia, which happens as a result from exposure to freezing water. Divers from #Rescue1, #Rescue4 and #Squad18 remained in the water, searching for over an hour for any additional patients. The searches came up negative. Deputy Chief Schof says, "With this thaw that we've had, going out onto the ice is not a good idea."
