@wish_i.d_gone_vegan_earlier @elizabethmourar - SWIPE FOR PHOTOS OF ABUSE
The barbaric #RinglingBros #circus is gone for good, however the animals tortured in their shows still need our help. Do not believe the lies about sanctuaries & conservation facilities. Like the elephants who were retired from their shows in 2016, many of the animals used in Ringling shows face treacherous fates. The fight is not over.
The elephants who were once used in Ringling shows were shipped to Ringling’s breeding & training compound, where they are used for cancer experiments at the disingenuously named #CenterforElephantConservation (CEC). Some elephants are chained on concrete floors for up to 23 hours a day. Elephants who are chained on hard surfaces are prone to arthritis, infection & psychological stress. #CEC records show that most of the elephants have foot or leg problems related to intensive restraint. Ultimately chaining can lead to premature death.
#Pregnant elephants at the CEC are chained by two or three legs for at least two weeks prior to their due dates. One elephant was filmed giving birth with 3 legs chained. Babies are forcibly separated from their frantic mothers. One #baby was kept in chains for four months, except for about 40 minutes a day when she was trained. In the wild elephants are active for 18 hours per day, foraging, socializing, taking dust baths & exploring home ranges that span hundreds of miles. At the CEC, females are left in unnaturally small social groups, while males are kept isolated & behind bars. Elephants imprisoned at this hell hole are still hit with bullhooks, heavy batons with a sharp steel hook on one end, & are shocked with electric prods. Tuberculosis runs rampant, claiming the lives of at least 8 #elephants at the CEC.new No #elephant in Ringling’s hands will ever step foot into the wild or ease the plight of endangered wild populations. Breeding elephants behind closed doors is NOT a form of conservation. This is not a sanctuary. It's a breeding & testing facility. We need to keep pressure on #RinglingBrothers to retire all of these animals to accredited sanctuaries so they have one last chance
